Newbie here saying hi, requires projector help

Hi all, thought i'd sign up, say hi and see if i can get some help.

Iam looking to treat myself to a new projector for XMAS as my current one (bought from an old office clearout sale) i think is the only thing letting my system down.

I only have a budget of £500, otherwise the family are each going to get a single line on the lotttery as their gifts...humm maybe good idea could take half their winning s and upgrade...... sorry i digress.

I want to get the best out of my AV kit for my budget and have seen what i think to be some good bargins for 720p (true HD) projectors. Then i started reading some of the reviews on here and got confused. I have a proper projection screen, not just a white wall, and there is about 232cm from the mount to the centre of the screen.

So ideas and Help, what should i look for and who should i avoid. Please no slaging matches like you get with Xbox/PS3.

Ta
chris

Welcome to the forums.

Sorry I don't know much about the current PJs at around £500 mark, but given how much info you've already provided I'm sure someone will be along to help soon.

Do you know if the PJ you have now is DLP or LCD? If it is DLP and you haven't been bothered by 'rainbows' (where the colour splits into red/green/blue flashes on fast movement), then you should be good to look at a HD DLP as they tend to give better contrast and black levels.

Have a read of the X9 thread and similar (not sure how much they cost of hand) and maybe the Optoma HD700/690/680 (hope I got those model numbers right ). Also have a look on the for sale section as some people recently have bought PJs then had to sell due to GF/Wife/money issues....you might get a barely used bargain.
