Sony VPL-VW60 - How many hours from a lamp?

I have had my projector for just a month and have already put on 150 hours on it.

I use the lamp on Eco mode. How many hours can I expect before my lamp dies?

Also is a long slow death? Or does it go without warning?

I need to know so that I can have a spare ready.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Sony VPL-VW60 - How many hours from a lamp?

I saw one owner post on AVS that he had just needed to replace a lamp after approx. 2150 hours. Not sure if that was mostly hi or low lamp mode use.

Typically Sony UHP lamps are 2000/3000 low/hi rated.

Thanks for your reply. What about how they die? I have heard that they slowly get dimmer. When does this dimming start?

They die like the same way the Frog King died in Shrek 3

Jokes apart, you may notice any of the following cases
1. the PJ will show you a lamp warning as life is nearing end. Some lamps won't work unless you replace after they have run out the quoted hours. Some continiue
2. The lamp may not fire and you will have to replace
3. It lamp explodes with a pop. The explosion is not so scary and is contained within the lamp chamber but you will have to remove all pices of glass before you attach a new lamp.
4. It is safe to replace the lamp after quoted hours.

Dimming
1. After first 100-200 (burn-in period)hrs the lamp dims a little but settles down for its best performance and that is why calibartion is mostly done after you run the first 100-200 hrs.
2. After around 30-40 % usage the lamp will start dimiming at a slow but gradual way.
3. When it is too near to its quoted lamp life the brigtness may reduce significantly but some lamps vary in their strength.

Lastly, you may actually change your PJ before you complete even half of its life due to a wallet hungry bug called upgradititis

Re: Sony VPL-VW60 - How many hours from a lamp?

Thanks for the information.

The rate I am going I will use up the 2000 hours in a year!

As for upgrading, this is already 1080p. I will wait until 4K projectors come down in price
