Panasonic Ae-3000 with no warranty?

Hi all,

I am in the US at the moment and can get the above for around £1500 but it apparently wont have any warranty in the UK.

Do you think it is worth the risk to save the money?

Also is this what I should be looking at over here to bring back or is there some other short throw LCD thats setting the world on fire at the moment?

Cheers!

What about customs, import duty and vat?

Are projectors exempt?Seems a lot of hassle considering you've got a great chance of being stopped.

If you get away with it,it's worth it for the £700 saving.

Dont think they are no.

Also not sure why you think there is a great chance of being stoppped? I have never been stopped in 20 years of travelling. Not saying I WONT get stopped but I certainly dont think there is a 'great' chance!

Anyway not suggesting I wont be paying all the appropriate bits and bobs just a bit worried about the lack of warranty.

Actually, you will have a warranty. A US warranty. Just like some of us yanks taking advantage of the Pound/Dollar and buying in the UK, we will have to return the projector to the UK dealer for service. You too could get warranty service by sending the projector back to the US dealer.

Just keep in mind how much shipping both ways can cost when figuring your longer term expense of ownership.

Given the cost of the Sony HW10 in the UK, you might also put the Sony on your short list of potential projectors.

I don't have a favorite between the HW10 and AE3000 yet, but I will by the end of the week.

Happy shopping.

LCD/LCOS projectors are categorised as LCD display devices and are not subject to import duty. You just have to make sure that you have the correct TARIC code to avoid confusion.
You are liable for VAT.

Are you carrying it as hand luggage?Seems risky considering the delicate nature of the things.

No way are you going to get a box that size in the cabin.Unless you take it out the box and wrap it in a towel.

Hold luggage, the way bags are treated,i wouldn't want a £1500 bit of kit being under a ton of bags.
