JVC HD1 frequency out of range message

I've had a JVC HD1 for just over a year now and in the last couple of months when watching through my Sky HD box I've been intermittently getting a blue screen with the message "input frequency out of range". This lasts for anything from a few seconds to several minutes. I don't see the problem with my Denon 3930 dvd player, so at first I thought it was the Thomson HD box, which is notoriously unreliable, but now I'm not so sure. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Cheers!
Richard

I'm changing my Sky HD box for a Pace one next week, so that will confim whether or not it is the projector.

Check the cable. I had a similar issue and narrowed it down to a faulty HDMI cable. It was swapped out and no problems since.

Re: JVC HD1 frequency out of range message

My PS3 does this on startup and when a disc is inserted ever since I've had it. Once the film has started etc there is no problem but it flashes the blue screen and message a couple of times on startup, disc insert, and disc eject.

But on Sky I don't get the problem. ?? Could it be a bandwidth issue? Sky is 1080i, but PS3 is 1080p.

Any ideas?

I've tried setting my Sky box to 1080i and 720p and still have the same problem......

Re: JVC HD1 frequency out of range message

It's either a cheapo faulty cable;
Bad connection;
Too long a cable run for the resolution (lower grade cables);
Old Firmware (there was a release to address this, I believe - ask your dealer);

HTH
Pete.

Thanks Pete,

I hope it's not the cable as it's embedded in the wall..... I'll check the connection and get on to my dealer for the firmware upgrade.

Cheers!

Re: JVC HD1 frequency out of range message

Mine has the lastest firmware but it still does it.

I have an 11m IXOS XHT458 Hdmi cable.

I've now added an XHT708 repeater that ensures the cable can handle 1080p to that length. At the risk of getting flamed I have to say IMHO the picture quality did look noticeably better when I added it. It has also reduced the message flicker, but not eliminated it from appearing altogether.

I am going to do some trials and move the PS3 so I can use a 1m HDMI cable directly into the projector. If the message dissapears it will mean it is due to the long cable, and also prove that not all HDMi cables are the same. If nothing changes it will mean it is most likely the PS3.

I swapped the cables between my dvd player and Sky box and I haven't had a problem since when viewing Sky. So it seems that the problem is the HDMI cable. I spoke to the dealer where I bought my HD1 and he said that they'd had a number of similar problems because of the cable.........
