Took the plunge on an Optoma HD700X...

Wanted to say a big thank you to all those who offered advice directly to me and on other threads...

Bought my Optoma HD700X yesterday from Empire Direct of Bradford. Although I wasn't lucky enough to get it for £364 as someone did recently they price-matched £384 (which I still think is a blimin' good price for the unit).

Bearing in mind my last projector was an InFocus 4805, here are my first impressions after 24 hours of ownership:

- The unit looks great
- Well set out remote which lights up in funky blue
- Incedibly light and compact for the spec - half the size of my 4805!
- Fan is very quiet
- Larger sized image projected from the same mounting point (guess that means a bigger 'throw'?)
- Crystal clear picture (even just on my magnolia wall - still building my new screen). Handles all the worrying things: (i) lights (ii) darks (iii) colours (iV) fast paced action scenes with absolute ease.
- Short shut down time (6 seconds - although I don't think this is necessarily a good thing!?!)
- Intuitive menu system with loads of options
- Replacement lamp prices don't break the bank

So glad it all works - proves my 8m HDMI cable plastered into the wall is working!

Can't wait to actually get some sound hooked up - need to buy an A/V amp with at last 4 HDMI inputs (will be posting that particular question in the appropriate section later as I still don't know which one to go for).

In conclusion - very happy with my sub £400 720p projector!

There are several of Optoma's own colour options (but not a simple R G & B adjustment).

These settings are accessible as long as the unit is being fed a signal.

Actually this means it has a shorter throw. I.e to achieve the same size screen as your old projector you would have to move it closer to your screen.

Re: Took the plunge on an Optoma HD700X...

Received my optoma from play.com today. No screen yet, so just a quick setup onto the bedroom wall and to say I'm impressed is an understatement

Great feeling playing fifa 09 on a big screen
