Thanks: Gave 0, Got 2 | X10 or IN80
Hi Forum Members
I just rang Sevenoaks to find out if I could demo the Infocus X10 as it is a projector that is within my budget. Unfortunately it was not available, the sales guy on the phone followed up with saying the X10 is more targetted towards businesses and schools. Just wanted to know your thoughts.
He mentioned the Infocus IN80 as the projector more geared to the Home cinema user. I managed to find a review of the IN80 here: http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/re...P-Projector/p1
I just wanted to know peoples thoughts on the two projectors above: IN80 vs X10.
Much appreciated.
Thanks |

What is infocus upto? 5 Full HD models at diff price brackets?
Impressive marketing strategy.
In80 is DC1 as appears from a website. Wonder if there will be any black level enhancement over the X10.
The warranty is great. 3 yrs door step with 12 months on lamp.

Hi anibap,
I'm going by the review here really. The positives (There are negatives to this PJ to mind!) the reviewer states the following:
"Black levels enjoy the greatest benefit, with slightly more of that ‘inky' look we love so much during, say, the inevitably dark external shots on the Blu-ray of visceral vampire flick, 30 Days of Night. This helps the projector deliver a slightly enhanced sense of the size and scale of the ill-fated town of Barrow, Alaska, too.
The enhanced black levels also help to produce a marginal improvement in colour toning, helping the IN80 handle the unusually tricky and varied palette of skin tones in 30 Days of Night with slightly more naturalism and finesse than the X10. Though this is a much less overt improvement than the black level one."
Having said that this is obviously through his eyes.
I wonder if anyone else here was looking at the x10 and compared it to the IN80.
I'm going to try and find somewhere in London that will allow me to Demo both these PJ's.
By more 1080p PJ's for people with budgets of 1000 - 1300 appearing its making the choice a much more interesting, wider and a harder one too!

Had my X10 since it was first released...awesome picture quality, and being used in an above average installation here, whoever told you it was geared to the business market is giving you some idea that the said bloke knows very little about this Pj, go somewhere else and speak to someone with experience and knowledge. This pj represents truly remarkable value for money.

Thanks Graham,
I was puzzled by what he was saying I had been reading reviews and also reading views of AV Forum members who to be honest were posting very positive reviews in terms of the quality of the X10 in regards to its price point!
I was actually searching for a place to demo the X10 when I came across the IN80 model at a price point of 200 poundish more then the X10.
Still looking for a place where I can demo the IN80 and or the X10 just to see for myself!

Impressive marketing strategy. | Indeed! I'm trying to buy my first PJ, and the similarity between X10, IN80 & HD800X is driving me crazy - I can't decide!

As a long time lover of the Infocus projectors (and i'm looking to go 1080) the warranty on the IN range. I bought earlier this year to replace my old SP5700 the IN78. I'm very happy and love it, great colour depth and fantastic contrast....but not 1080!! So loving the Infocus projectors and seeing the X10 i thought that was the way to go...but.... with the X10 its a 90day lamp and 1 year on the projector w'ty on the IN80 its a year on the lamp and 3 years on the unit(it is also door to door ).
So looking at the spec, they are very close. The In80 is giving a little better contrast ratio and the better w'ty..the X10 costs less.
For me i think i'll take the piece of mind and go for the IN80...........now anyone want to buy a low hours IN78 |

IF anyone gets to DEMO the IN80 before me it would be great if you could just give a breif personal view of what you think.
As soon as I get to DEMO the IN80 I'll do the same.
I agree with Pop up Dragon, the door to door warranty on the IN range will definately give piece of mind to me too so that would lean me towards the IN80 for sure!
If anyone had any ideas where to demo this in London guys, please let me know |

Well ive just found the IN80 on superfi for £1299. http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p...roduct_ID/4506
Also ive noticed according to the above link that the IN80 will suport 2.35:1 with a lens.
Can anyone confirm this?

You need the anamorphic lens to support 2.35:1 which I don't have any details on yet.

Thanks QuantumUK,
That just about answers my question, guess I will play the waiting game(again!) and see what the anamorphic solution ends up like!

After the demo of the X10, I was interested to find out what exactly is the difference between the X10 and the IN80 and why for some strange reasosn the IN80 is not at all listed in the Infocus website?
I recently emailed and spoke to infocus and also spoke to a technical person at CSE Solutions who are the sole supplier for infocus projectoprs in the UK.
Here are the responses for anyone wondering what the difference is. Quote:
Mail from Infocus
Thank-you for contacting InFocus,
The IN80 is a custom product sold exclusively in the UK to our home cinema custom install channel, so for this reason we do not have it on our website.
It has better contrast and higher lumens than the X10 and comes with a full three years product and one year lamp warranty.
You can contact CSE Distribution for further information on our IN80 product:

Some points from my discussion with CSE
The IN80 is custom made for UK market home cinema and was designed keeping in mind the Home theatre product aspect and is different from the X10 which to them (CSE) is a Crossover model between Data and Home Cinema (though Infocus claims the X10 for Home cinema market only.
The software is slightly different and the IN80 is more suited for Home
cinema.
The Contrast of IN80 is better than the X10
When asked about comparison to IN78 I was told that IN80 is better than IN78 though the latter is a DC3 chip due to more updated software and other image processing components used in the IN80. IN78 will be discontinued soon
On looking at the IN80/81/82/83 side by side you can see the difference but the IN80 is a great value for money as the diffrence is not that big and not worth the £2000 than the IN83
Overall the IN80 was designed to be different than the X10 and is a better product (according to CSE) and Infocus is selling both but via different channels.
Please note that though you won't see the IN80 on Infocus website it will be listed in teh registration site with part num - IN80EU. This can be seen at the bottom of the back connections as well.
| Well, hope this helps to a certain extent. Not sure how much of it is true and how much mktg stance . I am not sure if there is a difference but it seems likely otherwise there should be only one X10 just like the rest of the world.
The IN80 do come with 3 yr warranty and 1 yr lamp which is good and if it is really better than the X10, then at current prices, the IN80 seems to be a better buy with the price diffrence of £150-£200 and not £400 when they were launched.
