infocus in72 to a Optoma HD700X

Hi,was thinking of upgrading my infocus projector to the hd700x.My question is will i see a lot of difference between the models.Looking at the screenshots in other threads my thinking is my in72 dont cut it anymore.Or should i be looking at a 1080 projector.Any comments would be welcome.

Re: infocus in72 to a Optoma HD700X

I just sold my IN72 on the forums recently ( it is on route to the buyer as we speak) and bought an Optoma HD65 ( which I believe is very similar to the 700) which I got last Friday. So far I have watched the 3 Matrix movies on HD DVD on the HD65 and also Cloverfield on SD and all 4 looked amazing ( the default settings look perfect to me).
From what I have seen the HD65 is pretty bright and I am so pleased with my purchase. It is also far smaller than the IN72 although I am finding it a bit more awkward to set up due to distance from screen and zoom etc - but this down to my room not the pj. I cant say if standard dvds look any better or worse than on the IN72 but I was delighted with how Cloverfield looked and have no regrets about changing.

In fact I am probably gonna get a BR player sooner rather than later as the replacement bulbs are only £100 or so and I intend to use the pj more often than I used to.

If you have HD sources I would say go for it!!! As for 1080p pjs I cant help you there as I have never seen one ( but if they can make Monica Bellucci look any better than she did in the matrix films then ).

Re: infocus in72 to a Optoma HD700X

Same here. Moved from a IN72 to a HD65. The HD700x will be similar with slightly less contrast and brightness.

You will be very satisfied at the pricepoint. To me SD DVDs were slightly better on the IN72 with normal DVD players for both PJS (I used a pHilips 5980). But if you use a good upscaling player with HD65/700x it should look better.

For HD sources the HD65 beats the IN72 hands down.

Re: infocus in72 to a Optoma HD700X

Depends on what sources you are going to use. I went from a BenQ W100 to the HD700. It produces a picture very similar to the IN72 and in fact I can't tell them apart a lot of the time. However, I think I still prefer SD on the BenQ. The HD700 is brighter which makes a lot of difference but I am not a fan of upscaling. It doesn't always make the picture look better (can't make information that isn't there in the first place). I find upscaling produces a softer image compared to what I had before. It was defintely sharper. However, I have both BD and HD DVD and although it was excellent on the BenQ, I felt I was missing out what HD should really look like. So, for just SD, keep the IN72. If you need HD, then upgrade but be aware that some DVD's may not look good.

Re: infocus in72 to a Optoma HD700X

just out of interest how much did u guys sell your in72 for.i have 1 with 10 hours lamp life used on it. due to my old 1 packing up.I got it replaced by infocus aweek ago. I use my pc for playback of dvds etc.through a dvi to hdmi lead. Was thinking of getting a hd-br drive for my pc to playback hd media. Is 300pounds asking to much u think for my in72. Also when u guys say use an upscaler player would i see any difference with my projector because i thought the projector downscales images to its native res 854x480.

Re: infocus in72 to a Optoma HD700X

My Dad sold his one on ebay for £250 and 900 hours on the lamp.

Yes, you are right that the In72 dowscales higher resolutions. I only mentioned upscaling as the HD700 is 1280x720 and either the player or the PJ will do the upscaling.

Re: infocus in72 to a Optoma HD700X

you should put a for sale ad here:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/tv-projector-classified-adverts/

It costs nothing but make sure you read the terms and conditions ie you must put an exact price and because you are new on here some people may ask you if you would send the pj first and then they would pay you on receipt of it ( if they have sufficient good feedback on here that is). I sold mine last week for £150 but it had some damage to the pedestal and 250 hours on the lamp with no warranty.

Hi, recently sold my IN72 for £300 on ebay, delivery inclusive with 175 hours on the lamp. Went within 24 hours. Like a couple of others, got the HD65. To be honest, i think the colours on the IN72 are a lot better and the projector is brighter, but went with the HD65 because it's pretty darn good with hi-def. Anyway, hope this helps.

Initially I was quite unhappy with the default colour on the HD65 as I was using a Yellow wall and like you I felt colour on the Infocus was more natural (on my IN72). After having a white/gray blind I am very satisfied with the colour on the HD65.

Infocus PJ s have a strength in the colours and that is what i like about them but HD65 seems to be the first PJ from Optoma with good OOB colour.

You mentioned the IN72 being brighter??? Are you sure? The first diff I saw after selling my IN72 and firing up the HD65 - it is brighter by the IN72 by quite a margin.

I admit I haven't had the HD65 that long and haven't really spent lots of hours on it yet. But I have tried adjusting the settings and found that after doing so I wasn't getting as bright a picture as I got from the IN72. OOB settings, yes, perhaps it is brighter (can't remember now), but I find the default settings to have sort of washed out colours compared to the IN72 and needs to be adjusted. Am projecting onto a white screen at the moment. Will continue to adjust settings to get what others are getting soon though. Haven't had much time since getting it. Will be reading the HD65 thread tonight to see what settings other people are using.
