Thanks: Gave 20, Got 6 | please help with nvidia settings
hi,
i am currently running a hitachi pjtx100 through dvi-d from my nvidia 6600gt card as a secondary monitor for big screen movie playback(102").
i use vlc for the playback and nvidia control panel to maximise the resolution.
this thing is though that when i playback a divx file the quality is perfect on my standard tft, but on the projector the picture is terrible. I have tried powerstrip and nvidia pure video but none of it alters the video settings and only sorts the desktop.
can anyone advise a program that will allow me to sharpen the picture and alter brightness etc.

i was having trouble with vlc player and i dloaded the k-lite codec pack.it comes with a media player. My movies seem to run smoother now and look a bit better. If u try that remove any codecs from your pc 1st.It helped me but may be different issue with u.Running 32bit vista if that helps.

Did you make sure it has the right resolution and refresh rate for your pj?
You need to set the native resolution of the projector and the refresh rate as said in the manual.
Usually this is auto-detect but it does not harm to set everything manually before switching to the projector.
What you are describing sounds like double processing of the image (PC and PJ)

in regards to the resolution, when it shows the desktop it is at 1280x720, but when i select video playback it changes to 1280x1024 and both at 50hz.
i have tried setting this in nvidia control panel and it show it has been done but when i start playback it is just the same.
all my drivers are up to date, but i don't know if that is the problem as i have seen on other forums that people have been complaining about recent updates to nvidia control panel.

Ok, this is your problem. Apparently it switches back to your LCDs native resolution.
The Hitachi has to downscale the image resulting in a poor picture.
Can you select your projector as primary display?

I am certain. There is nothing such as the signal in the native resolution.
The TX100 is quite old and image processing back than was not the best. Even a brand new pj could have some troubles.

so , would i set the projector as my primary display and my standard tft as secondary and set nvidia dual screen mode to clone.
i have been meaning to upgrade pj but not a priority at moment as still only have 1100hr lamp time on it.

I would not worry to much regarding your projector. It is still a good device.
My point is: A DivX file is highly compressed and usually in a lower resolution.
Even on my Denon 2930 which has a fantastic video processing and uses the same video hardware as many other high-end amps, projectors, etc. I do have just an 'ok' picture from DivX (the projector is less imprtant in this scenario because it does no processing at all)
Good luck

On PC I tried FFDShow (if anything is going to make video look good on a PC it's this, even if it's nigh on rocket science to get it set up) but 90% of divx files just don't look much good blown up to 80"+. It's the way it is. Sharpening will only bring up the edges, inc the pixel edges and the noise. Noise reduction will dull the edges. Swings / Roundabouts. FFDShow is good with DVDs however, real good. Excellent upscaling and this is where the sharpening and NR works.
Divx look ok on smaller LCD TVs and great on CRT TVs but on PJs, pretty rough. x264 rips are a better bet but an even better bet is just get the DVDs - better quality and legal.
