PT-AX100E no good for digital photos from my PC?

I have bought the Panasonic PT-AX100E projector. It produces excellent high definition pictures from HD TV broadcasts. However, I bought it to display digital photos from my PC and the definition with these is dismal. This is despite using an HDMI/DVI lead and photos which are 3996 pixels by 2997 pixels - resolution of 350 pixels per inch and 34.3 M. I have tried manipulating the respective resolutions with no success. Is there anything else I can do?

The pictures seem to be of low resolution and colours seem quite course.

This is all about resolution. Your PJ does not have a resolution of 4000x3000 so they are going to look much less fine.

As for the colours, try playing with the PJ settings. They will look different from on a monitor because the image is not emitting light, it's reflecting it.

Thanks for your help. I will try manipulating the colours but I am very disappointed that I cannot get the same definition with my photos as I get from the HD TV broadcasts. Do you know what pixel dimensions the broadcasts use?

You'll get exactly the same definition for your pictures as you get on your HD broadcast.
What resolution does the computer say that the output to the projector is running at? Maybe you don't have it at the natural resolution of the projector...that would cause significant image degradation.

For example, I run my AX100 from the second display output on my graphics card so my primary monitor is at 1152x864 and my second display (projector) is set to 1280x720 (which is the native resolution of the AX100). That way the projector isn't rescaling anything. If your output to the projector is at it's default it could easily be outputting 800x600...the projector will rescale it to fill the screen (probably) but it won't look right.

Re: PT-AX100E no good for digital photos from my PC?

I have tried matching the screen res. of my PC with the native res. of the projector which is 1280 x 720 but it is no better.
Could it be a problem of connections? The manual recommends RGB signal to RGB output on the PC but this gives poor results. I am using the HDMI/DVI connection which is better but still poor. The manual says that this may cause problems and refers me to page 42 which says that a serial connection (RS-232C) can be used to allow the PC to control the projector but the manual shows this as having only 8 bit character length for signal level. An additional problem is that my PC does not have a RS-232C socket.

Re: PT-AX100E no good for digital photos from my PC?

Can't quite understand why you're having a problem with this. In my setup my second output on the graphics card goes to my Onkyo receiver via a DVI-HDMI cable with a resolution of 1280x720 at 59Hz. The receiver outputs everything on it's HDMI connection to the projector - again at 1280x720.

I'm afraid I don't have any other suggestions for your problem...but I if you're getting a good picture on your projector from HD TV sources I doubt the problem is at the projector side of things.

There's no need to use RS232 to control the projector.

Re: PT-AX100E no good for digital photos from my PC?

I think I will try to persuade a shop to let me try in-putting my PC photos to an LCD TV via an HDMI/DVI connector to see what happens.

Thanks a lot for your help.
