Projector help, strange dots?

Hi,

I've been browsing these forums for a while now and have found them very usefull indeed, but i now have a problem which i can seem to find a straight answer for....

Today i was given a proxima 6810 projector, and after setting it up i find that the screen has lots of blueish purple dots on it.
Now i looked on the forums and people were describing similar problems and saying "here is a picture of it so you can see what i mean" but i could see no picture so cant be sure if its the same problem i'm having!

So i thought i would join up and see if anyone here could help me out!?

anyway here is a picture of the projection so you can understand my problem a little better...hopefully.

incase that didn't work here is a direct link to the photo...

any help would be would be brilliant and if there is anything else you need me to tell you, just ask!

Thanks in advance
Ben

Re: Projector help, strange dots?

Can you find out how many hours the pj has been used. There's usually somewhere in the menu that will show you this.

As its a data type projector used mainly for lecture theatre/boardroom for displaying computer graphics etc I suspect it has had considerable use.It has probably come to the end of its life and someone has given it to you, hopefully free.

I think what you have there may be heat soak which can happen after many many hours of use.

It may be dust and if you can open the projector and see if you can get a can of compressed air and spray it around the lcd panels to see if that will improve things.

Other than that I don't know what else it might be,maybe someone else can help

Re: Projector help, strange dots?

hi

thanks for your reply, i checked the time on the projector and it done a fair amount of hours, roughly about 1500.

and yes it was free so if it cant be fixed easily then its not really a problem, but if it is heat soak, which part of it will be effected? one of the lcd's? if thats the case is it fixable or not?

I originally thought it was the bulb for some reason, before looking at these forums that is, and saw they cost around 400 pounds, but if it did come to that i might as well just buy a new projector?

like the one mentioned in the best projector for £400 thread?

again thanks for your help, can anyone else confirm this or have any other ideas?

Re: Projector help, strange dots?

Hi Bujuben

Looks like dust to me and with you stating the focus side. That almost confirms it.

Be careful when striping it down and ensure you do not have the unit plugged in to the mains.

Re: Projector help, strange dots?

hello again,

yeah i was thinking and hoping it might only be dust, anyway i've given it to my dad who is a electrician at the dockyard in portsmouth as i thought he'd be slightly more qualified to look at it than me.

He will be back this afternoon with a hopefully fixed pj, thanks to both of you for your help and i shall let you know how he got on when he gets back.

thanks again

Bujuben
