Projector compatability

I'm interested in buying a AE2000, more so now as I've just received a BD50 Blu Ray Player. What I would like to know is whether a 60" wide screen (only watching full HD) would be comfortable viewing from a 2.8-3.0m viewing distance?

How dramatic an effect would our white ceiling and magnolia walls have on the overall image? We (correction I) don't have the option to change the wall/ceiling colour. Does this make it pointless altogether (ie washing out colour, reducing black levels? Or does the wall colour only effect the earnest AV Fanatic with an eye for these things? I mean will the average viewer be content.

Thanks for you time, hope you can help.

Re: Projector compatability

60" wide @ 2.8-3.0m should be no problem,I watch my 720pj from around 3.0m with an 88" wide screen and its awsome man.

With 1080p you could get even closer with your 60" wide screen

My room has light colured walls & white ceiling but at night or in the day with curtains/blinds drawn and blackout cloth over the window it's not a problem.

Sure you can make your room like a batcave and you will get an even better contrast ratio but you will be fine as you are. You will be astonished at just how good todays projectors are in a fairly well light controlled room.

Re: Projector compatability

Thanks KBfern,

I think it's easy to get carried away sometimes, when you start to look into something (say a projector) and then you read all the pro's/cons, what to do/not to do.

Think the projector has to be a "go-er" though. Only received my Blu Ray player today, just went home for lunch and did a quick connection to my 32" (720p) LCD, watched about 15mins of JUMPER (borrowed from brother in-law). From my normal viewing distance I would say that the improvement on a 32" is there, but negligable, now when I stand up and get close to the screen you can definitely see the sharpness in the image, no pixelation as you get closer, which I would get with SD DVD.

So in conclusion if I blow up the image to approx x4 the size and have it in 1080p/24 I should be onto a "winner", "cinerama"

Re: Projector compatability

Hi Bod2020

I cannot see any problems.

All my wall are white and I use a 72". When I had a look a the 2000 at home I was suprised at how bright it was in the evenings.

So on your screen size you will be fine.

Regards. Shane.

Re: Projector compatability

Hi Shane

Thanks for the reply, seems promising so far.

How did you find the AE2000 overall? Impressed/Not so?
You mentioned you were suprised how bright it was in your room, did you find this affected black levels?

Thanks for any reply

Cheers

Re: Projector compatability

Hi Bod2020

I have ptax100 as my main pj, so I always enjoy playing with a new toys. The 2000 was very detailed, black levels where better than I would have expected in my room. As I said, I feel you will be fine. As you are only using a small screen you will be able to maximise the brightness from the projector. As I said I only use my pj in the evening and that was the same for the ptae2000. So if you follow that rule you will be ok, If you can dampen down the light in the room then things will just improve.

Playing Blu-ray. Again, things get even better. As more information is sent to the projector everything is amplified and steps up another level.

Regards. Shane.
