HD70, PS3 and 24fps - yup, that old chestnut

Hello,

as the proud owner of a new PS3 which I have hooked up via HDMI to my Optoma HD70 - I couldn't wait to try out the forced 1080/24 mode for Blu-Ray movies. I popped in a copy of 'Ratatouille', tried both settings, and for the life of me I couldn't see any difference between 24fps and non 24fps...there still seemed to be slight 'jitter' on slow pans.

I've read a few threads about this topic and I'm still none the wiser...lol. Am I doing something wrong with the settings?

Does anyone have the official word on whether the HD70 can actually display 24fps? It may have a bearing on whether or not I upgrade my projector.

Cheers,

Skyav

I can't answer your HD70 question but if you own Spiderman 3 on Blu-ray I can suggest a scene that should show a noticeable difference using 3:2 and 24hz.

Close to the beginning of chapter 4 there is a scene where the camera pan across some Goblin masks in a lab. At 60hz I see a very noticeable judder to the motion of this scene but 24hz on my system is much more fluid.

Thanks Avi,

I don't own that title, but maybe I'll give it a rent. I still get the impression that my HD70 is showing no difference when selecting 24fps on the PS3...and if that's the case, it sort of makes the ability to accept a 1080/24 signal a bit redundant...

I'm not familiar with the HD70 so you may be right that it continues to use a 60hz internal refersh hence no real difference with motion. The difference in the Spiderman 3 scene is pretty obvious to my eyes hence the suggestion.

If you do rent it and it looks the same on the HD70 then it would appear to not properly process 1080p/24.

I've read through the manual and not really found much.

It does say that it can accept a 72hz signal from a PC at some resolutions though, so that is something at least.

I watched Hitman on my friends PS3 through my HD70 and didn't notice any motion artifacts, although I wasn't looking for them.
