Can a HDMI switch be used in reverse of tv and projector?

All in the title really, just wanna know if there are any mechanical hdmi switched that will allow you to run them in reverse and switch between two displays instead of two inputs. I have seen many around for about £10 so if no one knows I may just buy one anyway and let you all know.

yeah there are, what you need is a HDMI splitter, rather than a switch. eBay usually has the cheaper options, but I can't vouch for what ones work.

Re: Can a HDMI switch be used in reverse of tv and projector?

Yes. I use this switch in reverse:

http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catal...al-switch.html

It goes after the output of my Onkyo, switching output between my plasma and projector.

No effect on PQ (or anything else, forthat matter), cheap, never a problem.

Dont use one of these though
http://www.xpcgear.com/pcm2275.html

I have already been sent a replacement and i still cant get eather of them to work for some stupid reason !!
All i was trying to do was split the HDMI output from my SkyHD box to feed my screen downstairs and screen upstairs !!

Re: Can a HDMI switch be used in reverse of tv and projector?

I agree with getting something that actually works. Cheep aint always good !!!

The problem i have with the splitter, When all connected up i turned on my Pioneer in the lounge and picture quality was spot on as was the sound, as if there was not a splitter inline at all. Then i left the pioneer switched on in the lounge and went upstairs. I turned on the LCD and yep i have a cracking picture on with sound all was working well and all for a cost of under £15 Billy Bonus i thought !! ...................
Leaving the LCD upstairs switched on i walked back down stairs and there was NO picture or sound on the pioneer The manufacture states that the splitter WILL run 2x HD screens at the same time !! wrong !!

Re: Can a HDMI switch be used in reverse of tv and projector?

Marvellous - I was just about to start my own thread complaining of the same problems!

I bought a cheapo splitter from ebay (i know i know dont start!) which looks remarkably similar to the one Bacus linked to. It also shares the same problem - I need both screens on and displaying the same pic for everything to work ok. If I turn one screen off I either get NO picture on the other one, or some really horribly skewed and pixelated rainbow coloured nonsense. Not ideal!

HOWEVER! The cheapo splitter works in reverse too (but the other reverse if you get my meaning). So instead of using it to output to two display devices, i use it to allow two sources to one device.

I also have this :http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130543

It's a simple switch that allows you to connect 3 sources to one display. Since my cheapo "splitter" is too cheapo to do it's job, it's useless to connect it to the output of the "switch" linked above to effectively connect 3 sources to 2 displays (unless i want both displays on at the same time, which i don't).

Rather than chuck the cheapo in the bin, I use it to plug into one of the inputs of the "switch", which now gives me 4 sources to 1 display.

For all those reasons, I am very excited that Pecker mentions he used a (slightly) more expensive switch (my cheapo was 10 quid delivered - hence the name) to do the very job I am after!

Here's hoping!

Re: Can a HDMI switch be used in reverse of tv and projector?

BTW, my switch sends the signal to either one display or the other - not both at once.

Yes, that is precisely what I want to do. And if I ever need to use both displays at the same time, I just plug in my cheapo in the right place and Robert's your father's brother

I'm off to order one of your switches now Pecker

P.S. I'd prefer it if it was remote controlled (and they have loads of remote controlled ones on that site) BUT I need a guarantee that it will work in reverse, and you've just given me that

Re: Can a HDMI switch be used in reverse of tv and projector?

I think i am going to go for a powered splitter. I have to split the signal to,

1. Main plasma (lounge)
2. HD projector (lounge)
3. Bedroom LCD

The unit i am looking at looks nice and it will split one input (i.e. my HD sky box) to 4 outputs. So i can always run another feed from the spair 4th output to another HD screen in my little boys room (when i get him a screen that is)

Here is the splitter:

http://hdcompany.co.uk/product_info....products_id=30

Please let me know what you all think ? and has anybody else used this splitter ? Or any other input

Regards Bacus

Re: Can a HDMI switch be used in reverse of tv and projector?

Have you considered this one : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130542# ?

The build quality on it is amazing, it looks good, has all ports on the back (which is a bonus) and is a lot cheaper! Especially considering the one you linked to wants an extra £10 for uk shipping

I have this : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130543

It may look similar, but this is a simple 3 way switch, nothing more. BUT same company, design, styling etc. And I can vouch for it in all those ways! It DOESN'T work in reverse, like the OP and I are trying to achieve though. In the "cables and interconnects" forum, a fellow called Mossym suggests that the switch Pecker has is passive, allowing it to be used normally and in reverse, whereas switches which are active, like mine, do not.
