You're going to struggle there I think. Especially if you want speakers either side of it.
Start by discounting the walls that you definitely can't mount the screen on. (Window, fireplace etc). Look at what is left and don't be afraid to put things at funny angles. (ie. The screen doesn't have to be against a wall, it can just hang from the ceiling).

Only way I can see is to hang it at an angle where the plasma is now. Or at the back of the room where the door is open on one of the pictures, it will have to hang over the door whenever we are using it.
Still its an tough one but sure would be nice to have one up somewhere.

It could also hang off the middle bean in the middle of the room I suppose but we would then be sitting pretty close to the screen itself.

tricky one dude, i reckon you could drop one down at the door at the end of the room (opp the window by the look of it) but you'd really wanna get those hand rails lowered or removed so they don't restrict the view
apart from that it looks like you'll struggle to achieve a good viewing distance?
or maybe you should consider moving? hahahaha (sorry private joke from one good av forums friend to another!)

A bit more work.. But you could get the first set of stair up to the landing moved to where the sofa currently is.. (ie. stairs straight all the way up).. Then your room would be work a lot better.
Anyway, just a thought... Good luck with it.

Difficult to tell from the photos if it's feasible, but what about dropping the screen down in front of the fireplace? Projector ceiling mounted above the sofa, wall mounted speakers in the alcoves. Keep the exisitng tv where it is for casual viewing (compact wall mounted speakers won't intrude when not in use)
You'd need some measurements for throw distance/screen size against viewing distance/screen size, but it's worth a look. Panasonic pj's tend to give big pictures at short throws, so don't discount it out of hand.

I agree 100% with MarkP80. What's the width of the room? If it's over 2.5 - 3 metres you'll be able to get a decent sized image if the PJ is mounted on the back wall. Personally, I'd find out which way the ceiling joists ran and, if feasible, put in a recessed electric screen above the fireplace. Again as MarkP80 says I'd go for a Panny PJ - my AX100 gives an excellent 115 inch image from about 4 metres. The Pannys are very flexible where space is limited or awkward.

Mount the plasma above the fireplace so you can watch it from the sofa in front. Then mount your PJ above your other sofa to the left of the fireplace. Mount your screen hidden behind the RSJ (in front if the drop hits the stairs below). That will then give you a decent throw from the PJ to screen and increase your choice of PJ and screen size. If you wanted you could then move all your AV kit on top of the shelves to the left of the fireplace leaving the floor to the right of the fireplace clear

Mount the PJ from the beam that runs parallel with the bottom of the stairs (which looks like it's facing the window). I mean the beam you can just see in pic 3 and is clear in pic 5.

hmmm very tough, i think an angle along the far wall or maybe a ceiling mounted screen? get a projector with a short throw distance and you'd be fine i should imagine

I think you'd have to rearange your furniture, have a screen come down over the window and could mount the projector either on the back wall or ceiling.
But I think what ever you choose the stairs are gonna get in the way, meaning some viewers may have to sit uncomftably close to the screen, and SDE i.e. seing the pixels will kick in unless the screen was pretty tiny.
It might jsut be that a projector is not viable in that space, you got a nice big tv though |
