Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | Replacing Infocus SP 5700 - want 1080p model
Hi All,
The time has come to replace my 4 year old SP 5700 with a 1080p model.
What are the best options for circa £2,000? I watch mostly DVDs, but Sky and consoles also. I want a quiet unit with very good blacks and great overall picture quality.
Any advise would be gratefully received.
Cheers in advance.

I'd see if you can get a Ben Q W5000 in that price range.
If you want to stay with InFocus, you should be able to snag their IN81 for that price, should be more quiet than your current model, but it wont be as close to silent as the W5000.

Thanks for that. I have checked out a few reviews and it seems to be a choice of 3: the BenQ W500, the Infocus IN81 or the Panny AE2000.
Anyone able to recommend one above the others?
Cheers all.

Cheers all. | I think you mean 5000.

I did indeed mean 5000!
The infocus looks good but is signifincantly more than the BenQ, so is anyone able to offer any reasons to buy one over 'tother?
Cheers all.

If you want a quiet unit at around that price, then perhaps the Mitsubishi HC6000 is worth a look. Sometime this week I am meant to going to the local dealer to look at this model, (alongside a Panasonic PT-AE2000 and Sony VPL-VW40), though the way things are going, this might have to wait until next week.

Cheers in advance. | I'm not sure if with a decent discount this will get close to your budget but the Planar 8150 is getting some good feedback. I would always recommend seeing a PJ first hand but is sound promising. Quote:

Quietness is the least important, more a highly desirable. Very good black levels and overall PQ more important, but all things being equal I would be tempted by a quieter model.

BenQ 5000 is gonna be more quiet than any InFocus model, pic quality wont be worse if you have their latest firmware. And the Panny 2000 even more quiet, but black reproduction is not as good as Ben Q 5000.
I would settle on the BenQ, given those considerations.
Another approach would be to look for a closeout sale on a BenQ 10000 if any are still around.

BenQ is the one you need to send back for firmware updates though, is it not?
Also, it doesn't support "Deep Colour" which may or may not be an issue, but I would aim to keep it for 3-4 years minimum so may become one.
That said, it is much cheaper than the Infocus which is good.
Cannot find any full reviews of the Planar 8150 to compare...

Whilst reviews can be interesting they are no substitute for first hand viewing and research IMO.

Cheers in advance. | Hi, i replaced my SP 7200 with Optoma HD80 and I tell you for the money its superb the 7200 was no slouch but the HD80 is at another level, the only caveat i would add it needs a slightly longer through than the 7200 did so room size may be an issue!

I replaced my Infocus 5700 with a Mitsubishi HC5000 a year ago and have never looked back. In every respect it is a significantly better projector - sharper picture, superior contrast and much much quieter. The newer HC6000 is better still so if I were in you position I would difinitely add the HC6000 to your list.
