Help Connecting Dell 3400MP DLP Projector!

Hey everyone. I just got a Dell 3400MP Projector tonight.

It has that odd M1-DA input. I wish to connect it to my PS3 to get a 1080i High Def signal, but I have no idea where to start! You can see the M1-DA input and other inputs available below. I'm wondering if I need a M1-DA (VESPA) to HDMI converter - but I don't know if that would work because I don't know if this is HDCP compatible.

Please help me find the cables I need, I spent 2 hours searching to no avail!

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

Did you happen to figure this out? I'm in the same situation but can't get it going...

I got an HDMI to M1-DA cable, but I still get 'out of range' on the projector. Composite video doesn't work either. So far no success on getting it on the 'big screen'.

Yep, I figured it out.

First you need a M1 to RCA - I paid 35 for mine - but monoprice now has them in stock for $4.

Then you need an RCA Coupler - which is only another $2.

Then if you want to connect computer speakers you need this. Only .65 cents!

Then of course you need a component PS3 cable you can get at Best Buy, and this set-up gets you 1080i on the projector!

Thanks, You're a superstar.

I had ordered a PS3 to component cable from monoprice the other day when I got the HDMI - M1-Da, so just need the three bits you listed. They were OOS on the 3 in 1 coupler, so I just bought three individual couplers instead.

Now I have to wait for shipping again!

Tell me about it. Mono was out of stock on the M1 to RCA, so I ordered it direct from Dell for $35.00. But price wasn't the worst part - I ordered it May 18th and didn't get it until June 3rd! Glad I could help, it took forever to figure this one out - as you probably noticed the internet had NOTHING!

Re: Help Connecting Dell 3400MP DLP Projector!

So my new cables arrived, but now I'm having audio problems...

The cable that I have from the PS3 to the projector (via the component to M1 plug) has the component outputs, plus a left and right audio. I fed those into a plug that combines the left/right to a 3.5mm jack. I then plugged my speakers into the 3.5mm jack... The audio that I'm getting doesn't seem like it's all the channels or something. I get some music, but no dialog in some games, only background noise in other games. Any ideas? I set up the audio settings on the PS3 to output via the multi cable. From your suggested plug I'm guessing you run the l/r audio straight into a line in on a receiver or something? Did you have any problems?

Re: Help Connecting Dell 3400MP DLP Projector!

I plug the L/R to 3.5 into the "input" jack on the back of the projector itself. then I plug the speakers into the "output" jack on the back of the projector. I have had no problems with this. Let me know if that works.

Re: Help Connecting Dell 3400MP DLP Projector!

Yeah, I meant to reply to this earlier... In the end that's exactly what I did and it works a treat .

I think the connector that I had originally tried to use was no good, but now it's working just fine.

Thanks again for the help
