Used Projectors?

Is it pretty safe to say buying a used projector that only needs a new lamp is safe?

Where can I find some good deals on used projectors?

I would like to find something under 900 quid, that will be 720 (or even 1080) that use DarkChip 2 at least... or 3... I want good blacks...

Cheers,

Howard

Re: Used Projectors?

There seems to be a blowout on some of the older 720p units that can be picked up well within your budget. I don't think you'd struggle to get a DC2 for around 700 notes.

Re: Used Projectors?

well im hearing so many opinions, whats yours gaz?

i was considering the hd800x but as i said in other posts, i dont really need 1080 right away as I dont have many 1080 sources, but would like 720 for dvds, xbox360 and perhaps get hd cable... but as im new to this, am thinking a 720 with better color/blacks for a little less may be the way to go.

so I thought the hd73 was maybe the way to go but im hearing its old and the 800x is better...

Re: Used Projectors?

I don't think the HD73 was a particualrly good implementation of the DC3, but picking a projector on the bits inside or the often inflated specs is like picking a wedding cake based on the ingrediant list or what the sales person promises it to be.

You'll wanna see it and taste it yourself before making a decision, and if you can't do that then next best thing is to go on recomendations from people you trust.

I've always championed the yamaha DPX-830 and a few people have bought on here from my recomendation and been very happy, then moved onto the film or tv section of the forum as thats where there interest now lies as they've got a bloody good projector.

Othwise look at the planer range, those have been reviewed very well or any mitsubishi DLP like the 1000/1100/1500/3000/3100 ect... those were good machines, also a in76 at a discount will be decent as ofcourse would an in78 or even a second hand optima h79 with a few hours on the bulb, but i recon the yam would have any of these any day .

The yamaha on paper doesn't really look special, but its a machine thats been tweeked and based on the pretty fantastic HD3(1)00, and although it may 'only' be DC2 its a special varient, has great optics and a lot of setup options to make the tweeker in anyone happy. If black levels, shapness and a filmic image are what you want, then buy this machine, if resoltuion is what you want buy the hd800x, if you need brightness or ease of placement buy the ax200. All of these are in or just above your budget and new, you may find a second hand one at a signficant discount.

You seem to have been bouncing around all over the place on this desicision, and i'd recomend getting some good demo's where you can see some of the models you want side by side and buy the one that looks best to you. Or you make a list of what you want order it by priority and we can suggest a model that fits it. Otherwise your either gonna be on here asking the same questions in a years time, or gone mad. On the former we'll still help, but on the latter get yourself over to general chat .
