Home cinema projector - how can I connect to DVD player

A group of us - non technical people have been showing DVD's to groups of people in village halls using an Alba TVD 3408 14" colour TV DVD Combi. This model has one red audio output connection on the back plus a Scart connection. On the side it has red, white and yellow ports for video and sound (maybe just imput).
Because our audiences were getting bigger I purchased a Hometheatre LCD projector TV HP 035 on ebay from a company called Mybesteshop. The projector imputs AV, SV, VGA, TV, YpbP2/YCbC2, HDMI and Scart.

So far we have been able to switch the projector on but not project the DVD on to a large screen. The supplier has been of little help - each time I have asked they have indicated that the red, white and yellow cables they provided should work. There is nowhere in the manual suggesting what I could do next and there are no obvious buttons to press on the remote. We have also tried playing the DVD from a 9.2" portable DVD player with one video in/out port. This produced a snowy image on the screen but that was all.

Are we using the wrong DVD players or is there another solution?

We would be grateful for any help.

You really need a dvd player with an hdmi socket, the alba will be shockingly poor, you could pick one up for £30.00 or £40.00

try here,

Unless they own the copyright for them or no copyright applies.

Unfortunately for the original poster, they have bought what looks like a very cheap and nasty projector. There are occasionally threads on here, asking if this that or the other projector on ebay is any good, they always seem to look like the same projector making wildly exaggerated claims about the quality and retail price (I saw one once with "rrp of £10k" selling for £400!). One or two people have even bought them. They are certainly not worth the money paid and may be of dubious electrical safety and quality. I doubt anyone on here will be able to give you advice based on first hand experience of this unit, but if you have got an image to display from the portable dvd player and it was unsatisfactory quality, then you have probably done everything necessary to select the correct input. It sound like if the results are less than satisfactory then you have either a faulty unit or that is as good as it gets. Send it back for a refund if you can. Try to get trading standards to help you if necessary.

If you are successful with that course of action, there are plenty on this forum that could help you find a suitable projector for your needs from a recognised manufacturer.

You normally find that TV/DVD combos only have inputs rather than outputs.

If the scart on the back of the combo has showing on the back <---> (not -->) then it will be input/output. If it has <---> then make sure your projector can handle a scart RGB signal.

Check to make sure you are using the right lead with the portable DVD player, this normally has one yellow connection at the end. Plug the yellow plug into the yellow socket (AV?) of the projector.

The scart on the combo does not show such signs - neither does the Manual, but the manual does claim that the audio and viseo sockets can be used with a projector. Have tried what you suggest with the portable but no joy.

Thanks anyway

Hello

You were right about the combo and further problems were caused by the manual getting it all wrong - but its working now - thanks to all

Re: Home cinema projector - how can I connect to DVD player

I just bought one of these for £179 off eBay. All the feedback about the item was good, but I would point out that the unit projects at 1200 lumens, I'd expect it to be ok in my home cinema room with the curtains closed but in a hall it would probably struggle if there was other light kicking around. As an example, a school classroom projector runs at 1500 lumens and is ok in most scenarios with blinds reducing the light, but they can bre very hard to see in bright conditions, and that is in a classroom.
