Optoma HD65 Distance Problem

Hello all,

I was all ready to buy an Optoma HD65 projector until I measured the distance from where I sit to the screen. If you guys can help out with 2 issues that I have.

1) Basically, the screen is 145cm long. Therefore, according to the distance calculators that would put the projector between 2.83 and 3.13. That range is exactly where our sofa is!!

2) I have purchased an electric screen that I will suspend from the ceiling. It is in the format of 4:3 and is 72 inch. I will have to just live with the white area when watching in 16:9 mode. The second problem is that when the screen is down it is still very high. Infact the bottom of the screen is about 10-20 above our heads. Again, this I would live with. The problem is that I have read that keystone is not good to use. The projector will probably be on the coffee table and therefore I assume that I would need to use keystone if i somehow was able to shift the sofa a little.

Given the 2 above. What should I do? The reason why I looked at the HD65 was the price to be honest. Any recommendations on other Projectors if that option would be better. I will be using only to watch movies. And I would prefer to have 720p. Cheaper the better. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Re: Optoma HD65 Distance Problem

Hello,

Just looking into this problem. When I went to projectorcentral.com and used the distance calculator it came up with the values as described in my orginal post. However, not thinking it would be different, I went to http://www.optoma.co.uk/distancecalc.aspx

and the values are coming in at 2.13m to 2.46 for a 166cm diagonal screen. This would be possible to fit in my room. But the projector would still be much lower than the screen. Approx, 1m lower. Would this be a problem?

Also, can someone please confirm because a couple of sites differ from the Optoma values.

Regards,

Prakash

Re: Optoma HD65 Distance Problem

It will be fine on a coffee table as the amount of keystone correction wont be too high. As for other pj's around the price of this one ( up to 700) i can't think of a better option, watching films on it is great - also gaming is fantastic through ps3 hooked up with hdmi. Buy and enjoy!! See the optoma thread for details on the best prices.

I have just checked Projector Centrals data and Optomas manual online and they both give the same throw range of 2.24-2.46 metres for a 166cm diagonal screen.
