Epson UK, hang your heads in shame !

It's interesting that on projectorcentral and projectorreviews the 3 main "budget" 1080p contenders are considered to be the Benq W5000, the Sony VPL-VW40 and the Epson TW-2000 UB which all seem to be available in the US for similar money. The VPL-VW40 hasn't been priced in the UK thus far so I can't bash Sony yet, the TW2000 has a £2999 srp and is available for about £300 less than that, the Benq can be had for £1395 !!

Not quite true, the Home Cinema 1080UB is $2999 which is the same list price as the VW40 but the Pro Cinema 1080UB is $3999. It is the Pro model that is the TW2000 equivalent.

Re: Epson UK, hang your heads in shame !

At PriceJapan, the Epson Epson TW-2000 is EUR2009 shipped to Europe. Which is about GBP1540. Add taxes and it still comes in around GBP1800.

Don't Epson (and others) in the UK know about the Internet yet?

I feel somewhat sorry for dealers who will be unable to sell these things (to many people at least) and/or will have no rational explanation for the HUGE difference.

Epson themselves know the true value of their projector. They introduced it at the right price at the What HiFi show last year (<£2000).

Re: Epson UK, hang your heads in shame !

The previous thread on the pricing of the TW2000 revealed that Epson UK feel very strongly that the 3 year on site warranty is worth the mark-up. I think if they were to offer a standard warranty, reduce the price to somewhere close to £2k and then offer a top up warranty for £1k, they could let the consumer decide if they think the extra is worth paying for.

It is worth comparing this projector to the VW60, which has a rather busy owners thread full of people who have imported at a huge saving. It would seem that not so many people have been tempted by this one in comparison, so even at import prices, perhaps people don't feel it offers enough advantage over, lets say, a UK sourced Panasonic AE2000 at a similar price. I'm sure in a few months time the price will be much more reasonable.
