SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

This is weird!!!

I have a brand new sanyo plv-z2000 - I Wired in my PS3 and the menu screens flicker in and out and the screen goes black and then fuzzy and then ok for a second and then repeats weirdness again.Like a weak and faulty connection...but...

And the strangest thing - Once I play a blu ray on the PS3 - No problems atall!!!

Sound and picture perfect when playing a movie!

HELPS?

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

Maybe the cable can't quite manage 1080p60, but is happy with 1080p24 for blu ray (because there is less data).
Try unchecking 1080p60 on the resolution menus (but leave 1080i) and see what happens.

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

Nice tip - It only has a 1080p tick box - no option for ticking 1080p60 or 1080p24 - I'll try it at 1080i in a bit - Pain in the bum though because I guess this means I need to change it everytime I watch a blu ray??

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

Mind you having paid a small fortune for a 10 metre QED - HDMI Silver Reference 1.3 1080p cable so you think I should take it back if it is having issues with 1080p60?? Or is this notmal over 10mt runs?

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

I have a PLV-Z5 720p and I know exactly what you talking about.

I think it happens more often during games, I seem to remember the Gran Tourismo demo it used to flicker on the menu screen but not during gameplay.

I haven't seen it for ages now, probably because I don't play games on the PS3 only Blu-ray.

Maybe it is a problem with just the Sanyo projectors???

How is your Z2000? I would love to upgrade from 720p to 1080p and I do like the sharp image from the Sanyo.

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

Yeah it's odd. Only on the menu screen although I have not tried a game yet.. Very strange. Could be cable length I guess - but a £200 10met QED cable SHOULD be fine I would have thought!!??

The projector is awesome - Picture is jawdropping out of the box and after an hour calibrating - WOW - It's sweet...

Do it - IF finances allow -

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

If QED say it's 1.3 compatible at that length then it should be fine. I don't know about Sanyo, but I've heard a couple of JVC HD1 owners need a signal boost to get it to lock. More a fussiness of the projector than the cable I think in that instance.
1080p should be well within the 1.3 spec.
A £200 cable should mean a helpful warranty service though.

The best way to check would be to get a small run of high quality cable and connect it temporarily to see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't then it's either the source resolution (I haven't heard problems with the PS3 in general) or a projector problem (not liking the 1080p60 timing).

You didnt fall for the classic, about the more "expensive the cable the better"old chestnut, did you?As you will read on these forums the difference in hdmi cabling is negligible,no matter what length or cheapness

I didn't pay the RRP - But still I would have imagined it should be able to Handle it. Strange thing is - My Toshiba E30 HDDVD player sends 1080p to the Sanyo without problems.

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

And how do signal boosters work and how expensive??

I currently use a 4-1 QED splitter box to send 360,Sky,PS3 and HDDVD to the projector..

The only pain in the bum is having to keep switching the 'OUT' HDMI when I want to go between my Sony LCD and the Projector - Any other way around that????

Another test might be to remove the splitter temporarily and repeat the initial test. Just to see if it's causing issues.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about the booster products.

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

£200 pund for an HDMI cable? I paid £30 for a 15 metre one off ebay and it does the job perfectly.

I think I've heard a few people mention issues with expensive HDMI cables if I recall correctly.

10 metres should not be an issues at all for a decent cable. Have you tried connecting the cable directly without the switch box?

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

Went direct - The QED cable is fine - So this points toward the 4-way switching box not being able to send 1080p60 through 10metre of HDMI after splitting - Can send 1080p24 - Mighty Strange!!! The difference between 1080p24 and 1080p60 must be it's limit over long runs. But the feed is PERFECT going straight from PS3 to Projector using the same 10met QED-HDMI-P.

The only reason I got the £££ cable is for the long run - I completely agree with you about cables for short runs not making (alot) a difference. But on 10m + runs I disagree. I think better to invest (a little) on something decent for long runs.

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

Well at least you've got to the bottom of it. Good result.
Bandwidth and resistance over long runs can definitely make a difference. 1080p60 wasn't part of everyone's thoughts when HDMI cables first came on the market and 10m is considered a long run.
I would imagine it's the combination of switcher and long run which is causing the problem. Should be an easy fix though now.

Re: SANYO PLV-Z2000 PS3 Probs!! HELP!!

recently I have had the same problem with my plvZ2000 + ps3. When I turn my ps3 on (1080p) signal, I get a slow screen flicker for about 2-3 mins. then it goes away and everything runs perfect. No issue when a non 1080p signal present. sent an email to sanyo, will advise of response.
