aspect ratio

I am very happy with my equipment and viewing, but on some dvds, including Shrek 3, the aspect ratio seems wrong. Lots of little fatties running around. Is this avoidable with my setup?

Re: aspect ratio

Shrek is 16:9 so unless you're watching it as 2.35:1 (squashed with black bars) or are using it in some other aspect ratio mode I don't see why you can't watch it correctly. Is the DVD the 16:9 version or a 4:3 version maybe? Is the DVD set to output to a 16:9 display?

What pj are you using?

Re: aspect ratio

Gary, thanks for replying .

My PJ is a PT-AE1000E.

I haven't got the sleeve for the dvd as it's on rental but it certainly is widescreen. Looks as though it needs stretching a little up and down. There are black bars at the top and bottom.

In every respect my setup is fantastic, only occasional dvds look squashed.

Re: aspect ratio

Just looked at dvd setup as you suggested and it was outputting 4:3. Have changed this to 16:9 and auto and picture is now perfect.

Many thanks Gary.

As gary suggests, if most stuff looks good, then it is either the DVD or DVD player...

Can you go into your DVD menu and change the aspect ratios, I know both the Pio717 and Denon 2900 had menu settings that changed the aspect ratio
