Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Never noticed it on mine,I have been pausing it on a few dvd's trying to get some pics and it all seems stable and flicker free, my source is a PS3 using bluray dvd's.
Is it noticeable on normal playback and from multiple sources?

Hi. My HD65 doesn't appear to flicker. The fact that you are seeing it mainly on one side of the screen would indicate its not a bulb problem as that would affect the whole picture. Have you got the AI feature switched on or off? and does the flicker occur using different sources and inputs?

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Mine was doing that... and I was beginning to get worried. Top left like you say. I fiddled around last night and found the Tracking /Phase options.... if you read the manual they say that they can sort out a flickering image.

It seemed to fix it last night, and I went to sleep very happy. Will check it later though. I tweaked both with no real knowledge of what I was doing, until it stopped.

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Hmmm, mine is still flickering. It is kind of sporadic. Clutching at straws... possibly random questions:

I sit to the left of and level with the projector.
I allow 5-15 minutes warm up.
It eased off after 1 hour, but returned. Linked to attention?
Lens is dusty on the top half, but reluctant to touch lens.
Using Xbox HD (non-HDMI) cable

I have not seen it with games, but that could be down to lots of changing colours and movement. Possibly attention/perception.

If I make a load of changes in the menu, it seems to stop for a bit. Maybe flick between a few modes and then back..

AI is disabled in general.

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

To stop the flickering.. increase the brightness, either flicking to Bright mode or shifting the brightness right up etc.

Then: Shifting the brightness down, the flickering suddenly starts again at a certain point. It is not gradual like something you become aware off, it clicks on and off clearly.

Could this be an auto-iris issue? Or something? Image AI is off.

It still isn't all the time.

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Well, mine kept flickering. It was pretty annoying.

To cut a long story short, it is with Optoma (RMA). Awaiting parts still (after a week) so I guess there is a shortage of parts as well as actual units. At least it shows they found something wrong that is going to be fixed.

I was originally concerned that it was just my eyes and the 50Hz refresh, but for that it would have had to be constant. I also had multiple people with differing eyesight view the image... then I rang Optoma. They arranged for it to be collected from me. I was originally told 5-7 days.

I wish they had told me I could have had a hot swap temporary projector, the xbox is getting dusty.

All that said, If you are connecting to a PC it might be a different issue. Maybe the Tracking and Phase options will work for you, or there is some graphics tweaking to do??

I'll report back when mine finds it's way home.

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

I've just started noticing this too.

It does seem a bit sporadic though, I can get through a few mins of Pro Evolution Soccer (Ps3) and then I start noticing it. Exiting the game I then notice it on the PS3 menu screen.

Switch to something else (e.g. Ratatouille Blu-Ray) and I don't notice it. When I then quite the blu-ray it appears to have stopped on the PS3 menu screen too.

Question is should I send it back for fixing?

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Since my projector came back I have not noticed any flickering. However, I have only played a game or two on the xbox and watched a short film, so i'm reluctant to say it is perfect yet... but I am very hopeful it is sorted, and very glad it is back.

According to the tech guys, it has had a new colour wheel... and then when it was going through QC it ended up getting a new lamp as well (as the first one failed the check).

Only downer is since coming back the lens is now a little loose, such that when I focus the image with the dial, the picture can sometimes shifts left and right/up and down as well. This would probably be more annoying if I had a screen, and I'm not sure I fancy loosing it for another period of time.

If you do send off for repair, ask for a hot swap. It could end up being longer than the number of days they quote. Good luck!

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Actually looking at it I could still take this back to PC World where I bought it and get them to swap it (I think I'm within the time allowed for that)

The Question is which is the better option? get a new one from the shop or get Optoma to fix this one for me?

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

I'd sent mine off at the start of November with the same flickering issue. They'd replaced the lamp driver and the bulb. It was fine for about 3 weeks and then the flickering slowly crept back into being noticeable. So I've sent the RMA form off and will be waiting for it to be picked up again.

I hate to think of the cost to them (it can't be far off the original cost of the PJ). On the upside though, the flickering isn't as bad as it was before.

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Flickering is quite normal on some lamps and it mostly happens in the first 200 hrs. After that the bulb settles down and it goes away. I had the flicker on mine as well around 65 hrs. But after few days it went away. In high lamp mode you may never see it.

if it persists after the lamp run in period contact Optoma.

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

Unfortunately mine is flickering again, pretty much the same as last time. The problem had gone away and has only recently come back and became an issue. Problem is the lamp is older than 6 months so I hope they don't replace that. If they do try and charge, I'll argue the toss that it was a fault that has been there from the start (same flickering issue as reported back in November).

Re: optoma hd65 flickering????

not trying to be negative treguard, but if you try arguing that the fault has been there for so long then because you have lived with it for so long, legally you have 'accepted the fault'. of course the shop may not be aware of that principle........
