Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

Hi All

Tried my best to search the thread but couldn't find what I was after. Sorry If you have seen this before

I have a SONY VPL-HS50, I have replaced the bulb in it's lifetime and the current bulb sits at 1200 hrs. (In Eco mode)

But on the top middle of the screen and the left middle there is a blue almost like a smudge on the image.

It seems to be getting bigger and I am starting to stare at it rather than watch the TV

Does anybody know if it's a problem with the PJ or a fault with the bulb. My bulb is still under warranty so if it's the bulb I need to be quick

Thanks in advance

Scallywag

Might be a polariser in the projector.

Re: Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

I have the same sort of thing with my BenqW100, that I mentioned here recently..
Mine is on the lower left side of the screen, creeping towards the bottom middle..
Fortunately I only see it in dark scenes, so I just put up with it..

Sounds like it might be a polariser or a filter of some sort on the way out..

Re: Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

hi!!
i have the same problem with my sony hs20,
its a blue patch thats getting bigger over time, top left of screen( very slowly) .
i can only see it in certain coloured scenes.
if it is a polariser or a filter any idea on what it might cost to repair aprox?
and the best place to send it?
i am looking at getting a 1080p, but i replaced the bulb not so long ago in the hs20 and would have liked to get atleast a couple of hundred for the pj.
any ideas greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
best regards
nick.

Re: Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

hi!!!
just wondering if anybody would have an idea on repair costs if it turns out to be a polariser or filter on a sony hs20.
i have done a couple of searches and there is a place close to where i live that deals with sony repairs (i think this includes pj`s).
the problem is they are likely to charge me to take a look, which is normally non refundable but deducted of the repair price should you go ahead with it.
is it worth taking it to get repaired or is basicaly scrap now?
what would be a rough guidline for cost?
anyhelp received greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
besty regards
nick.

Re: Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

hi!!!
well i decided to take a look and see if i could fathom it out,
i couldnt see anything wrong with the polarisers, so i decided to look a bit further i have no idea what the names are of some the items i took out i think some may have been filters looked a different colour to the polarisers, then there were these thick peices of round glass concave i had them out to, the bottom line i couldnt actually see anything wrong.
maybe the damage on the blue polariser wasnt visible to the eye? although i think it must be the polariser from what ive read the blue tinge can get worse with more heat and the longer the pj is on the more noticable it is.
or maybe its a problem with the blue panel?
although i didnt resolve the issue it was great fun having a look it was around 3 hours start to finish.
amazingly i had no parts or screws left over i was well chuffed.
and the projector still works
cant get the pics to upload ill have another go tomorrow (its because the jpg files are to big the smallest is 252.0 kb) o well.....
best regards
nick.

Re: Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

Hi Guys

Sorry I have not replied back to this. I had to go to the US on business.

Ok been speaking to all sorts of places today including Sony, can you believe they originally told me they had no idea what the problem was. Really starting to lose patience with them,

Regarding pricing they have told me that if it is a basic bulb - realigning problem then I am looking at £270, If it's something to do with the optics it will cost £850 to fix + VAT. So basically the machine will be a right off.

To cap it all the problem is getting worse. This is the 2nd projector that I have bought from Sony that this has happened to.

Although quick question if anyone can help me. I am now running the pj through HDMI where previously it was on analogue. The guy from Sony said that it might be a dodgy cable I have that may cause the problem.

Can anyone confirm if this is infact true or am I being spun a yarn

Thanks all

Re: Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

Try another input and see if it's still there. If it is it's not the cable (which I doubt anyway).

Re: Blue tinges creeping onto screen,

No joy I'm afraid

Unplugged the HDMI and put in me trusty analogue and no difference,

Oh well, Going to call Sony in the morning , get them to come pick it up, I'll let you all know how it goes
