My mate got a multimax projector off ebay for around that price. In fact that was what made me buy one! Anyway it will project a big picture but not a very good quality one!

The picture quality is fuzzy and cloudy, and light dark scenes aren't handled well.
The projector has built in speakers which are also **** quality.
On top of that these are very noisy!!

IMO you would be better spending another couple of hundreed and getting a HD beast! With the 1080p projectors being release more recently, im sure you could find a 720p projector on the trading forums for 350/400.

Failing that the new optoma hd720x and hd70 - People seem to be picking them up for 350/450 open box from some online companies. Spending a little more will get you a lot in terms of results. Even without the HD sources, you will still reap the benefits.
