image problem Sanyo plv30 dodgy skintones

Hello, Our village film club uses a Sanyo plv30 projector which is now over 4 years old but has been gently used. New problem on Saturday- the skin tones in particular look "Contoured" and the colour comes out in blocks, shadows on the side of necks look like birth marks etc. There are other problems with the images in the background too. Any idea what the likely cause is ? We usually use a DVD player with an s video cable as well as a cable linking the far left hand port on the projector. Have tried different discs .. problem still there. Have tried swapping DVD - problem still there but replacement had no s video cable. Has anyone come across this type of issue and could point me in the likely direction of the fault please ? Sorry no AV background and the equipment manuals leave me in the dark ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers !

Re: image problem Sanyo plv30 dodgy skintones

I have one of these but don't use it any more since the lamp went. Never had a problem like this with it. I had a look and am a little confused with your description of "left most socket". On mine that could conceivably be either one of the component inputs(Y) or the VGA input. You shouldn't have anything connected to the Y input of the component port unless all three inputs are used. I would remove this if I were you and see what happens.

Only other suggestion is to borrow another DVD player which outputs S-video, or maybe even a PC via VGA, and try that. It doesn't really sound like a projector problem to me anyway.

Cheers,

jah

Re: image problem Sanyo plv30 dodgy skintones

Thanks for the fast reply. We will try another s video source input and swap the lead in case that is the cause of the trouble. More I think about it the more I think the issue is in the quality of the connection between the dvd player and the projector. Will also try a dvd through a laptop on a 15 pin lead and see if that works. But will be later in the week as the kit is not stored with me. Many thanks for your time and trouble,

Deb
