Optoma Hd65 Hc Projector

Just noticed on the Optoma UK web site of this model home cinema projector.

Are there any reviews or prices for this projector available and is this HD65 the future replacement model for the HD70 ?

I have downloaded the HD65 product brochure from Optoma web site and the specs looks favorable against the HD70 .

Might be tempted on this machine if the price is competitive.

Thanks for the feedback.

The reviews and screen shots on the AVS site seems pretty good.

For £499 at PC World, might be tempted to pick up one at the weekend has a temporary stop gap for a year or so until 1080p projectors are more affordable.

Cheers

Re: Optoma Hd65 Hc Projector

Hello, I'm thinking of buying an HD65 tomorrow. I've considered the Panasonic AX100 but its £200 more and I cannot see what extra you get for your money - Any thoughts? Also, the bulbs for the Panasonic are £250+.

Does anybody know if anywhere else in the UK sells the HD65 apart from PCWorld? Also, what are the cost of the bulbs?

Thanks.

The HD71 Really is a light cannon. 2400 Lumens is really going for it. Can't image it will be 23db or less though.

Overall all though looks like some good new contenders in the 720P market.

Re: Optoma Hd65 Hc Projector

Thinking of getting a HD65 or HD70 may wait and see if there any cheaper prices in sales.

Can anyone advise a suitable screen for these projector.

I would prefer something which I could put up and take down as I dont think a permanent screen arrangement would please the other half.

thanks for any advice

Re: Optoma Hd65 Hc Projector

Thanks for advice I had thought of painting the walls.

The room is 23' by 13' with each long end being a 10' window.

Therefore if I used a painted wall the most I could come back from the screen width ways would be 13' not sure how big the screen size could then be?

I thought it would be better to use the length of the room, which then brings in the issue of the windows and the need for a screen

Open to advice though

I haven't had chance yet to level and set up the projector properly, the image on the screen needs further adjustment.

The Screen is 80" 16:9 white with a gain of 1.0 and the projector is approx 8ft away on a temporary table top stand approx 500mm high off the floor, center of the screen.

If possible, i would suggest that if anybody is interested in the HD65, please arrange a demo with any dealers that are going to stock this projector ,to find out if it meets your needs and you are happy with the picture quality it displays.

Do not use these screenshots to make you decide on your future purchase, the photo's are just some informative fun.

That's good. Some projectors do suffer from a bit of bowing. Good you know that yours is just a alignment issue.

The screenies do look a touch red. I take it that it's the white balance in your camera that's off.
Hopefully, Art from projectorreviews.com will review and post calibration numbers for this little beaut.

Cyberheater,

Haven't had chance yet to realign the projector which is not currently siting level or true on it's table top mount needs further fiddling around.

The picture shown is higher on the left hand side of the screen compared to the right.

With regarding the Bowing Effect mentioned, not sure how to calibrate this, would there be any set up menus within the projector software to assist me.

However, for my eyes whilst the image needs to be more squared up to the screen, the image is OK for me.

I have not done any adjustment out of the box for colors, but the Mission impossible film for the first two screenshots are noticeable have higher red skin tones compared to some of the other films that i watched over the weekend.

If interested can post more pictures of different movies.

Not sure about my camera set up,never been into photography,i merely point and shoot in the automatic mode.

Any budding photographers out there can give me some simple advice on how to take an improved picture in a dark room environment.

Cheers

I too have problems with photographing projectors images. I can never get the focus sharp or the colours are off compared to what's on the screen.

A good guide from a photographer guru would be most welcome.
I think i'll start a thread on it.

I'm glad your enjoying your PJ. I've always liked the Optomas and the HD65 looks like a cracking PJ. Also, there is not clear section in the colour wheel so colours should be deeper and blacks er... blacker

Re: Optoma Hd65 Hc Projector

I've just been and bought one from PCWorld this morning :D Very happy so far but it is my first projector so have nothing to compare it to. Having not seen any home cinema projectors running before I'm really suprised at the picture quality on a painted green wall. One it's fully set up and the room is finished I'll post up some pics.

Can anyone recommend a ceiling mount for the HD65? Silly question seeing as I just bought it but is it capable of 1080p? Reading the instructions it seems to be capable of 1920 x 1080 when using digital inputs.

Join the HD65 Club, i am glad your happy with your purchase .

The HD65 can take a 1080P 24 frames input feed into the HDMI socket at the rear of the projector, but the image you see on the screen will be downscaled to either 720p or 1080I resolution.

This projector is not full 1080P true HD only HD ready if that makes sense.

Still for £499 its a fantastically specified HC projector and i am chuffed with the PQ.
