Epson TW2000 at What Hi Fi show, special show price

Was any one else tempted at the special show price of £1975 for this machine? I am a PJ noob so excuse me. I saw this projector and must say that I was impressed, It had a claimed CR of 50,000:1 The chap at the show was helpfull and patient but only had blue ray trailers to demo. The usual was wayched, but what i was impressed with was the PQ in Sin City it didnt look atrificial like many LCD I have viewed, it looked good.

Across the way was the infocus IN82 that was impressive but retails at around 3k. If someone was to offer both at the same price, IN82 would do it hands down, but for me it definatly was not worth the 1k price difference. It also depends on how well calibrated the set up is. The Epson was apparantly out of the box no comment on the Infocus. I was surprised that more manufacturers did not have special show offers, I may have been tempted by the infocus at £2,500 but at the current price I would have to consider the HD1 before going for the infocus.

Anyway I exchanged card details and was assured that the card would not be processed until the stock was in, so still have a few days. I understand the panny 2000 will be round the 1900 mark too, has anyone seen the panny and epson together? for me its between these two, I havent seen the panny yet, but will be doing so on the 17th.

Any advice other than look at the both and decide which I am doing will be appreciated.

The bloke at Epson reckoned the TW2000 would be retailing around 3k!! and to take advantage of the offer. Surely at 3k their would be to much competition and I would have gone with the infocus and had a look at an hd1, but at 2k it seemed reasonable and the picture looked good albeit just on blue ray. Would love to have a look at what it can do with a good upscaled DVD.

Epson did switch over to ble ray play black through the PS3 and I couldnt notice a great deal of difference between that and the dedicated Samsung player.

My budget is 2k and I will stick to it, just want to get the best I can within that. By the sim 2 c3x demo in the what Hi Fi room was mind blowing, but thats safely out of my budget! Epson also have a 3 year warranty on the PJ and Bulb and if any problems within warranty period they will send an engineer out to have a look. This offers great comfort, and may be the deciding factor even if the panny is slightly better. I doubt their will be day and night between the two.

Your thoughts would be so welcome, im torn between the two, then theirs the mits and sanyo in the same ball park!! didnt think this would be so tough!! Sometimes too much information can be a bad thing!!!

Re: Epson TW2000 at What Hi Fi show, special show price

I was tempted by the price but like a wrote in a thread here probably now on page 2 i simply was not that impressed with the epson at all and their supposed £3k launch and offering it for £2k just didnt seem right to me no matter how nice it sounded, some people tend to think more 2.3 to 2.5k seems about right.
I thought their room was poor at the show though and that didnt help its cause much i bet.

I wanna see the mitsubishi hc6000 before i plunge, but i will give the epson another chance at a dedicated demo,Will be interesting what this forum has to say on its review to.

I'd ignore the claimed contrast ratio of 50,000:1 as it bears no resemblance to reality.

This pj is now listed on the epson site with rrp of £2999

http://www.epson.co.uk/projectors/Ep...-Projector.htm

Also on av-sales for the same

http://www.av-sales.co.uk/Projectors...000-381-18.htm

At least Epson claim 1080/24 support for this unit. Quite surprised by the price to be honest but seems well specified.

Crikey, it needs to be really special to sell significant numbers at that price.

Re: Epson TW2000 at What Hi Fi show, special show price

Can someone please comment on how sharp the TW2000 image is compared to the very soft TW1000 (and compared to what will be my next projector, the Mits. HC6000)?

Ditto. The Epson TW1000 I owned for a few months looked ok, but it was noticabley softer than my previous Hitachi TX200. I am looking at the following projectors in the following order of preference:

1) Epson TW2000
2) Mitsubishi HC6000
3) Panasonic AE2000
4) Sanyo Z2000

It's a battle of contrast/black level/shadow detail and sharpness. Of course, colour uniformity and dust blobs via quality control will be another issue. I figure that if the Epson TW2000 is sharp, then it will definitely be a potential for the #1 spot. The Mitsubishi is very sharp and has a cool lens iris, so it could be right up there. The Panny has had great reviews and the Sanyo is ok, but not exceptional by all accounts. If the Epson is not as sharp as the Mitsubishi, then it's going to fall down the list.

If the Epson TW2000 is sharp, and has exceptional black levels and contrast, it may be killer. For me, it's all about the sharpness of the TW2000.

The Epson TW2000 is shipping today I believe and may even have international warranty from jp and hk.
