Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

Now that this projector is available for £1999 how does it fair against other projectors in all areas?

Thanks

Steve

If you're not affected by rainbows (5x colour wheel) it produces one of the best overall images of a all the mono DLP's this side of £6k. In best contrast mode it isn't very bright but it is possible to sacrifice contrast for additional brighness using the manual iris. Also its fan noise is pretty loud compared to some. Apart from that it a very good PJ IMO.

I'm lead to believe it's an end of life deal being offered by Sharp so other dealers may also do something. I'm not sure if/what Sharp are planning to offer as the new model as the rumour is the Z20000 sold in very small numbers in Europe and Sharp may even be pulling out of the HT PJ market. Don't know if that's true.

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

I've got the Sharp XV-Z3000 machine and would strongly recommend not getting the zv 21000 .

My Sharp produces a stunning wonderful high contrast deep black image with hardly any tweaking out of the box (for contrast and black level) and I can only suggest the zv 21000 would be even better.

The problem is that it's so good I can't seem me upgrading for quite some time. Ho hum...

So is this model identical to the 20k talked about on AVS and reviewed by Greg Rogers?

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

Well ive gone for it and can't wait for it to arrive

I think this is a deal not to be missed if you dont suffer from rainbows
I was planning on going with the HD1 and toying with the panny 2000 but the dynamic iris on the panny 2000 was giving me concerns after the comments on here.
The xtra cash i've saved is now going on the Onkyo 905 or yammy 3800......

Just need to get hold of some hi def material to try this beauty out, got a PC but no dedicated HD player

Has anyone actually got one to comment on?

Cyberheater you gave me a heart attack when i started reading your post, you

Thanks to all that have helped

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

I was incredibly tempted by this offer last week but had to decline because the throw and lens shift requirements don't work in my setup. It's quite a long-throw projector, something like 1.85:1 to 2.2:1 and when used on a shelf (which is how I would be using it) the height of the projector needs to be within the lower half of the screen. When inverted, obviously the projector needs to be within the upper half of the screen.

If you can accomodate it then at £2k it's a steal!

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

I can't believe it ONLY £1999 AND that includes a BR player!!!! That is shocking!!!!

What a bargain! This range of pj's were in excess of £10k when they first came about! Earlier this year it was still £7k. So whats changing??

Good luck to anyone in the market at the mo, you'd be bl**dy mad not to take this offer up!

Did they ever release a 1080/24 firmware fix for this pj?

Bump ^

Even without the BR player offer £1999 is really tempting....with the BR player (and selling it off) effectively this pj is around £1700!

Better than the Optoma's IMO. The Sharp is capable of lower black level and has better on/off, ANSI and colour accuracy. No good if you want a big image at shortish throw. Haven't seen the IN82 so can't comment.

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

£1700 for a projector which cost around £7000 six months ago is the deal of the year if you're in the market for a 1080 DLP Machine.

This PJ gives the HD-1 a good run for its money, and many people consider it to give a better picture.

The killer for me apart from the rainbows is the throw, 13.5ft for a 100 inch screen, just not going to work in my room. If it had I may of considered giving it a go.

With Sharp's flagship projector now at £1700 what does that mean for the other high cost DLP machines???

I'm sure the Sim2C3X 1080 machine throws a stunning picture but £18K compared to £1700 is a big difference when most would probably not even notice the difference.

I guess it really depends on Sharps strategy. If this is their new price point for future PJ's of this type then it will be interesting. If it's their swan song and they are exiting the PJ market then bag one while you can before their gone.

The Sharp and Sim2 are targeted at different markets. The Sharp is relatively dim in best contrast mode. Fire them both at a 12'-15' wide screen and you will notice a big difference. If you want to light up a 100" diag the C3X may be a bit overkill.

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

Well I recieved the Sharp beasty today

Only got a laptop hooked up via VGA at the moment.
Played the demo material on the free THX disc in HCC and got a say i'm well chuffed, the star wars and raiders demo's blew me away, just can't wait to try bluray and HDDVD via HDMI

The picture is more than bright enough even with some dimmers on and the fan noise is not noticeable at all

If you dont suffer from RBE and have a long enough room GO FOR IT NOW!

Seriously thinking about it. I read all the fantastic reviews, but I never contemplated buying one because of the price. This changes everything. There's an interesting AVS thread about how much better this is than a VP60. Not sure how I'd get it in the room, though.

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

Congrats on your new PJ Jackass.

Wow £2k for the ZV 12000 is a serious bargain. If I didn't already own the ZV 12000 I'd jump on this. Anyone considering buying a 1080p PJ should really consider this bargain before it sells out.

Sharp really do know how to make fine quality PJ's and it would be a shame to see them leave this market.

Also if anyone is sensitive to PJ fan noise they should be weary as its rather loud in high lamp mode if you sit closer than a few feet (this is from my experience with the 12k).

Jackass, can you tell me where you got the firmware from please as I cannot find it.

I have one on the way should get it after the weekend, can't wait. I have been agonising for months about what to upgrade to (from a Benq pe7700) and for a long time I only really wanted the JVC HD1 but I do love the look of dlp projectors and fortunately don't suffer from the rainbows so when I saw this at the ridiculous price that it is and re read about it (having dismissed it earlier due to the high price)I had to go for it.

Don't forget for anyone who does order, you can get quidco cash back of £50.

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

I'm looking out for a good 1080p projector to replace my H79 and as stated earlier in the thread I would definitely have gone for one of these bargains if the throw and offset would have worked out in my setup.

A 1080p projector that would work out ok for my room is the JVC HD1. I wonder if there are any JVC owners who would be interested in swapping for one of these Sharps? I'd be willing to pay £2k for a good 2nd hand HD1 and the owner could then buy themselves a brand new Z21000.

The HD1 seems to divide opinion to say the least but this way I get to try one out for a few months and if I end up not liking it then at least I'm in a position to sell it without too much loss. Just to keep things above board, if anyone is interested in selling their HD1 I'm off to place a wanted ad in the classifieds; see you there

The problem is that the HD1 is pretty bright whilst still achieving high native contrast. Brightness is is a factor in "image punch". To achieve best contrast performance on the Sharp it means dialing down the brightness via the twin iris. The other issue is colour breakup aka rainbows and the Sharp also produces more operational noise than the HD1. So it comes back to trading off some areas of performance for others.

Re: Sharp zv 21000 vs others?

Hi AVI,

The Sharp would have been perfect for brightness in my setup as I'm using a fairly small screen - 70" wide. If anything, the JVC is probably a bit bright for that size screen and I may have to reduce the light output with an ND2 filter. I don't suffer from rainbow effect so pretty much in all respects other than placement the Sharp would have been perfect for me. Such a shame as it's a very highly regarded projector over on AVS, even includes a full CMS as well.
