AX100 to AX200 - worth the upgrade?

I like to upgrade my gear regularly, to ensure I get good sell on prices, and I've noticed that Panasonic have recently released the AX200.

I've read a little about it, but I'm not that technically minded, so I'm unsure about whether the upgrade is worth it.

Could anyone advise?

Cheers!

IMO the improovements are minimal. If wasting time and money is a hobbey of yours then upgrade from the AX100 to the AX200. Otherwise keep it for about three or four years.

I think that is rather harsh, but probably true. If you want to do a worthwhile upgrade on the AX100 you'll have to go 1080P either one of the new batch of LCD PJs or the Sony VW60, JVC HD-1. Also worth a look is the Optoma HD80 and other more expense 1080 DLP PJs.

However doing that will cost you over a grand, minimum.

Projectorcentrals review says the following;

' Last year's AX100U was one of the highest rated projectors of the year, earning a solid 5-star rating in all four categories. The AX200U retains the overall excellent performance characteristics of its predecessor, with two noteworthy improvements—exceptional performance with 1080p sources, and a gaming mode with faster response '

Changing from a AX100 to AX200 will not be worth it unless you really want an extra HDMI or the gaming mode and is that really worth the cost to change of about £400-500?????

Having studied the coments over on avsforum, there seems to be an opinion that the 200 is an improvement over the 100. For eg its now sharper.

Re: AX100 to AX200 - worth the upgrade?

The biggest change on the 200 is the new gaming mode with it's improved refresh rate. Down from 15ms to 5ms. Also added benifit of two hdmi connections.

I think the answer is if you need the above then the answer will have to be yes otherwise other improvments are their and only you can deside if you think the 200 is worth the upgrade!

Nope I only have the AX100, but it's not a huge leap of faith of a judgement to make. Specs are almost exactly the same and when I read the specs and browsed the forums, I made up my mind pretty quickly there's no point in upgrading to that. AX2000 looks very interesting though, 1080p with 1500 lumens and 16,000:1 contrast ratio. Could be a winner

All things considered I'd have to agree. Side by side I'm not sure anyone could tell the difference. The AX200 may be very slightly sharper and have an improved gaming mode plus an extra HDMI in, but not really a worthwhile upgrade.

The AX2000 is a different beast, hearing lots of good things about that. Spot on realistic colours out of the box, great contrast plus 1500 Lumens.

If the UK price can get close to this Euro price of approximately £1900 Panasonic could be on to a real winner here.

However I'm probably more excited about the Sanyo PLV-Z2000 if I'm honest.
