AX-200 owners, please read...

Has anyone got the AX-200 yet? If so...

Can anyone tell me if the AX-200 will accept 1280x720 (1:1 pixel mapped) @ 47.952 (or 23.976 or 71.928) "native" using the HDMI input?

What I mean (by "native") is with no FRC - ideally tested with "JudderTest" or using the judder test pattern in a VP50 or similar.

Thanks,

Rob.

I tend to find whenever I ask this kind of question, most "shops" think I'm talking another language so I just don't bother.

I've also asked this question on AVS, but there seems to be too much bitching and bickering about nonsense going on over there...

If only I could get my hands on one for 5 mins I could answer this...

Hi Rob100

Have just been in contact with Panasonic and as yet the UK Engineers are putting the Projector through it's paces. So They haven't any answers yet.

I can let you know the Spec at 720p these are -

YPbPr Signal: 750 (720)/50p: 750 (720)/60p: this is the all I can obtain at the moment! once we have more we will let you know.

Bumpety bump...

If anyone is using an AX-200 with a HTPC using DVI/HDMI I could detail how to check this if you've be willing to experiment

Got my AX-200 last night...

Have tried it with my Vista laptop (via VGA cable), and a mac-mini (DVi-HDMI).

The Mac definitely gave a much better picture.

If you can supply details on how to do the Judder test I'll try it out.

Thanks for the offer, but to do the test I (well, you'd) need a Windows PC (certainly XP, possibly Vista) with a DVI/HDMI output.

Hi All
Sorry for the delay.

I cannot see any real sharpness difference.

Works fine with Windows XP just ensure your graphics card is upto the job.

We have the UVem (High End Media Server) via DVI - HDMI and have had no problems here!

Remember to set the Graphics Card to 1280 x 720p in the graphics settings for the best result.

Shane,

Do you have PowerStrip installed?

If so can you please set to 1280 x 720 @ 47.952Hz and see if you get a picture. If you do, is it pixel matched 1:1? And finally the most important bit...

Run a test with JudderTest to see if you get a smooth pan. Probably worth setting to 60Hz (59.94) first to see how it should look (smoothness of pan). Making the bar wider and faster makes the test more revealing and will show judder easier and also tearing...

Thanks,

Rob.

Re: AX-200 owners, please read...

Rob does this have any bearing on real performance, or are you just obsessed?
1280 x 720 @ 47.952Hz seems pretty damn specfic.

I'm not obsessed

As I've said many times before in numerous threads, the only way to watch "film" (be it a R1 SD DVD or HD DVD/Blu-ray) without 3:2 judder or any other judder for that matter is at a multiple of 23.976 fps/Hz.

1080p24 is not 24 fps/Hz. The true frequency is 23.976Hz.

Although we know the AX-200 will accept 1080p24 (and I think from what I've read elsewhere it will refresh at 47.952Hz, displaying each frame twice) I want to do the scaling in my Lumagen HDQ and pixel match 1:1 therfore avoiding additional scaling in by the PJ. I very much doubt the AX-200 will accept 1280x720 @ 23.976Hz, but there's a (good?) chance it will @ 47.952Hz.

Unfortunately it's not just a case of if the PJ accepts the resolution/refresh it's a case of what it does with it. Hence the JudderTest to prove that it's not internally converting it to 60Hz (59.94). It's common for the display (be it a PJ, LCD or plasma "flat panel") to convert anything outside of it's "native" working range back to 60Hz for display.

I am able to do 1280x720 @ 47.952 into my HS60 using the VGA input, but it will only work at 50Hz or 60Hz (59.94) using the HDMI input. This works well especially on SD sources as the slight softness of the VGA connection hides (well it helps a little) MPEG artifacts etc, but I crave the extra sharpness (of the HDMI) when watching HD DVD and Blu-ray which is 99% of what I watch these days.

Rob.
