Old Epson 810 vs new Ebay special

Hello Everyone

I have borrowed an old Epson 810 projector to check how it looks in the lounge. I am happy with the picture and now want to buy a projector. Would a cheap ebay special like

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Powerful-Sharp...QQcmdZViewItem

have as good a picture as a 6 year old projector which cost £'000s

The epson resolution is XGA 786,432 pixels (1024*768)

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum! I personally wouldn't want one of the projectors that you link to and I think that thought will be echoed by most others on here. You are probably better off looking at the classifieds on here instead. That pj on ebay also seems to have an odd resolution of 800 * 480, probably a typo and should be 800*600 but this is the same as my 6 or 7 year old projector (if 800*600) which is probably worth a lot less than the £250 being asked for this one. There was another similar discussion about these on here recently and the ebay advert in that case claimed the bargain of the century, they were selling them for £500 reduced from £12000! These probably only cost £50 at most.

Re: Old Epson 810 vs new Ebay special

Of course this is personal choice but looking at the offer I notice a very strange native resolution.
DVDs have 576 lines, HD 720 or 1080.
In practice this means the projector must change the picture to its native resolution.
Most likely you wll not get a good image quality even with the most expensive player.
A side note: Many people complain about this with their HD-ready TV's

I would not go for an offer like this but always choose a display with either native 1280x720 or native full HD 1920x1080.
