Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | Help, PLV-Z3 Blue Blurry Shapes
Sanyo PLV-Z3 on it's second bulb, I've cleared dust off in the past but this doesn't seem like dust. Large blue blurry slashes pervade the picture to varying degrees depending on the colours in the picture. I've got max keystoning on due to the proj position and the blue shapes extend off the signal picture and onto the blank keystone framing.
I took the proj apart and cleaned three clear little plates ( newb on the actual parts involved ) seem to be filters, to no avail. I've dusted everything and cleaned all filters. Should I be trying to take the panels out, or clean them? Any help would be appreciated.
Attached is a crude mock up of the issue, you can see the keystone adjustment as well as the blue shapes.

Bump, is this a damaged polarized filter or lcd panel? Is there anywhere to get replacements?

I have something similar happening to my ~2 1/2 year old Z3. There's a blue smudge in the bottom right hand part of the screen. I thought it might be dust so I followed the cleaning instructions but it's still there. It also strangely seems to change shape depending on what I've been watching. E.g. after I've finished a film I can still see a blue ghost outline of the black bar along the bottom of the screen. This makes me think it isn't dust but maybe a fault of some kind.

So Sanyo estimate says, basically replace everything, two polarization filters ( red, green ), optical filter and the lcd assembly, totalling almost $2000. I was thinking of just buying the polarization filters and installing them myself which would be about $200, I really doubted it was LCD damage, any thoughts? would I just be throwing money away? Sanyo refuses to tell me how much replacing the filters alone would help the issue. An informed opinion would help alot!

I had this, was told it was the blue polariser. At the time the Z3 was quite new out and there was a lot of internet chat that quite a few were failing and that Sanyo claiming they were all due to misuse (heat) and refusing to repair under warranty. I got mine done on warranty though.
If my Z3 went now it would be in the bin I'm afraid, the cost of repair could not be justified.
I hope you can somehow get a cost effective repair done.

So you had blue blur and they told you it was the blue polarization filter? They told me the blue filter was fine.......anyone out there know whether a bad filter will let the colour through? or whether it's the other two filters that are bad if you see a colour?
I have to decide now whether I want to buy the parts and repair it myself, try to get Sanyo US to repair it ( I'm in Canada ) or ditch it.

Hi guys.
The blue filter can degrade and the lcd in the blue line can also deteriorate.
With the top off, slide a piece of paper in between each lcd and filter. When the smudge disappears, this should indicate which light channel the fault is on. The picture will change colour as you do this. You may even be able to see this smudge on the filter, or the lcd, if it is on either.
I have had something similar on another type of projector. It turned out to be a foriegn object on one of the filter/lcd's. But, it may also be behind the filter within the engine.
If you focus the smudge as best you can, get a thin cotton bud and put it between the filter / lcd and it has the same focus, you are in the right area. Simararily, if you can get it between the lcd and prism, this might also help.
Hope this is clear??? |
