Have you hidden your projector?

Guys,

Am looking to finally buy a projector.

I will be mounted in the living room but would be good if I could make it as inconspicuous as possible.

Anyone done anything clever so it doesn't visually hit you in the face when you walk into the room?

Very curious

Cheers
Stace

If you able to ceiling mount and have the space this may be of interest-

Re: Have you hidden your projector?

I wouldn't say it was clever, but mine sits on the top shelf of a bookcase at the back of the room. As the PJ is black, you hardly notice it. Only snag is that you need a PJ with a long throw and a large screen, or maybe a short room.

Re: Have you hidden your projector?

Mine is on top of a tall micro Hi Fi stand at the opposite end of the screen. I sit next to it when watching a film. I rather have it in the open and make sure it gets enough ventilation when being used. I do have a cover to put over it when it is off.

AVI, thanks for that. I'm looking for something of exactly that sort, but even if I wasn't, that demo video is priceless. Is it an unusually good computer-generated voice, or just a really boring voice-over artist, do you think?

Stace, everything depends on the exact location of the projector. A ceiling mount can be very conspicuous indeed (hence my interest in a retractable lift) but as the other replies have suggested, with an out-of-the-way placement on a cabinet or shelf the thing can become an almost unnoticeable part of the furniture remarkably quickly.

Re: Have you hidden your projector?

I keep mine next to the drinks cabinet

It stands out a lot less than the tv. Like you say, ceiling mounts could really stand out.

I love my projector

Re: Have you hidden your projector?

Take a look at my thread in my sig. I've buried my projector into my actual wall via a concealed unit built out of mdf. Didn't fancy a projector sticking out. This makes it all a little more discreet and most people dont even notice it till you tell them its there and its fired up.
