Hitachi LCD 50VS69A

Hello there, trying to resolve an issue with my Hitachi projection LCD 50VS69A TV. I can receive cable signals using the "Air" setting correctly, and can switch to an alternate input and also receive that alternate input image.

If i switch to Picture in Picture, the second window is always "Air" with no signal, and no option to change the input.

Reading the manual makes o sense to me for this section, and I have an engineering degree!!

Hoping that someone here can explain in plain english how the PIP works on this TV. Sad part is my $400 floor-model rear-projection TV is much easier to use!!
