Cedia 2007 Projectors :)

Hi chaps

Well what a busy first day with a ton of stuff to see and meetings left right and centre!!

All pics are from my phone, so apologies for the quality in some shots.

I will keep this relatively brief with a quick bit of info on the three projectors that i spent most time with today.

VPL VW60:

Having seen this already at my shop i spent a little time looking at it again, most interestingly Sony are making a big play on the whole anamorphic front with both of there PJ's now having anamorphic stretch built in. The 60 looked great although IMO crushing black level detail at the expense of making it go dark, clearly the iris had been set very aggresively.

They were showing it within the demo with straight 16:9 but had it pictured outside the booth with anamorphic sled:

VPL VW200:

The spec of this unit had been closely guarded until today and i can understand why, with full zone convergence (something like 144 locations) each with 0.1 pixel adjustment means every unit will be able to achieve perfect convergence = stunning sharpness. Coupled with the new carl zeiss optics 35:000 to 1 contrast ratio with new iris control and the latest gen of SXRD, its some projector. The demo involved both standard 16:9 material with detailed demo of the new 120hz refresh with black frame insertion and motion interpolation as well as 2.35:1 with a Schneider anamorphic lens. What a mental bit of kit Picture looked a little washed out on Spiderman 3 but i think this is down to set up rather than product. The product looks like a baby Qualia with the same colours and finishes being used.

Spec list:

Looks:

JVC HD100:

The new JVC was also shown and i had a great meeting with the designers, the HD100 looks far more business like in its all black / dark grey finish, new motorised focus and zoom are now in use (still manual lens shift) and with improved colour gamut, HDMI 1.3 and serious 30:000 to 1 contrast ratio with NO iris the image was so inky black. The demo room when black was impossible to see the screen, and i did not expect such a dramatic differnece from the HD1. Image seemed sharper also and i look forward to spending some time with this at the shop in the very near future.

Pic:

Also interestingly Meridian are to do a reworked HD1 called the MF10 under the Faroudja banner, did not get a chance to speak to them today but will tmrw, including the new 3 chip sim.

Bye for now!

Re: Cedia 2007 Projectors :)

The zone convergence is something I never envisioned with a fixed pixel display, so this is quite impressive IMHO. Will this be on the 60 as well as the 200 or is it just a 200 feature at the moment?

Zone Convergence is great. They should of put that on the JVC.

Did you see the Marantz VP-15S1 and the Sim2 C3X 1080P?

How would you rank them all?

Some feedback on both below whilts we wait for Elliot's report.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=903220

The 1080 C3X using Darkchip4 appears to set new ground for DLP perfromance but with a UK price from £20k+ it really should be pretty special.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=886859

The Marantz appears to have improved in some areas and worse in others compared to current range.

From what I've read the C3X and Marantz are aimed at different markets hence the huge difference in cost and performance.

Its only a 200 feature Gary, the 60 still has shifts of 0.1 of a pixel, but only overall, just as the JVC had.

Will be looking at the other PJ's today, just off to the show and i've got my new camera now, justr arrived!

Some interesting feedback from CEDIA re the VW200 from AVS.

The black frame insertion of the motion flow used for film costs one big time light output. Every other frame is black. You figure it out. Black frame instead of lit frame= less brightness You could see it in the demo.

What we should absolutely expect given the significant cost difference.

RS2 ~ $8k
VW200 ~ $15k
C3X1080 from $30k

Re: Cedia 2007 Projectors :)

Spent a great deal of time with all the Pj's again and i definitely have a firm favourite

Thought the Sim looked nice but, will reserve proper judgement until i see one at the shop, was nice to catch up with Alan though

Meridians new Pj is in fact the Hd100, more details on the changes to follow, but this unit seems to have stayed under the radar!

Have ordered lots of new kit, and can't wait to show you guys some stuff at some upcoming events
