720P - will it judder with Bluray

As title says:

Is 720p going to be 24fps compatible - relating specifically to Projection Design Model 2 projector?

If using Bluray, will a 720P projector downscale the image, or can you jsut set the player to output 720P so no saling is then involved?

Can anyone help?

Thanks, James

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

Not bought yet. But probably something like a PS3 - I believe the picture on one is very good with the correct firmware.

Would this be suitable? Can the source be set to 720P, or would it output 1080P and then the projector would have to downscale it to its native resolution - all very confusing!

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

im using a ps3 on an in76 and it looks amazing but cant get it to work at 24 fps but i dont think it matters as you will be blown away by the 60 hz blu ray picture
you can set the ps3 720 if you want to i only brought it for the blu-ray its a lot better then my 360 hd dvd

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

I thought that 24 fps was only an option with 1080p not 720p.

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

Similar question so I'll add it in here rather than create a new thread.

If I get a 1080p24 compatible player, but for the time being, due to having no HDMI switching, I connect using component video, I presume it will output 1080i50. What will that look like, in terms of judder?

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

If you use Component it would only be 720p not 1080i/p.

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

So we are clear, 1080p24 compatability does not rely on the native resolution of the projector. For example, the Panasonic AX100 is a 720p LCD projector but is 1080p24 compatible.

If you are buying a new projector, personally I would only consider a unit that is 1080p24 compatible, as once you start seeing judder it has the potential to irritate hugely. As a compatible projector starts at under £1k, why not have the compatability?

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

Does mine have 1080P24 compatibility UrbanT? This is the spec sheet:

computer compatibility 1280 x 720 @ 47.94, 48, 50, 59.94, 60 Hz
virtually any resolution and frequency from 640 x 480 - 1920 x 1080
synchronous from 48 - 62 Hz

video compatibility HDTV:1080@24p, 30p, 50p, 60p; 1080@50i, 60i, 720@50p, 60p
EDTV: 576@50p, 480@60p
SDTV:576@50i, 480@60i
NTSC, PAL, SECAM
automatic or manual selection

I have underlined the bit that I think refers to it, so assume that it is OK.

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

Some PJ's also accept 1080p24 but convert to 1080p/60hz.

Re: 720P - will it judder with Bluray

I think mine will do that as it is a 720P model, but as long a it accepts it, I think I should avoid the judder issue.
