Calling all Mitsubishi HC5000 owner, tell us how good it is

as above, I bought one from Jacko on the ads and have only checked it for 5 mins on my livingroom wall as my garage conversion is still ongoing . Thus I would like others to share their experiences on this projector as i haven't been able to use mine properly yet and have diddly squat to go on, nor will i for about 6 weeks until the garage is finished. I await replies eagerly

thanks,

Neil

Hi there.

This is a great machine for the money. I love it. After initial problems were sorted out this one has worked flawlessly. Image is clean, sharp and very watchable. It is so quiet as well.

I am using a Beamax screen and HD images have just got so much detail without looking artificial and oversharp. Although there is so much sharpness with this you could have that effect if you wanted it.

No dust blobs touch wood.

thanks, I am still undecided on a screen, where did you get your screen, what size is it and what distance are you projecting your image from,

thanks,

Neil

Beamax 1.1 gain on white with velvet surround, got it on the forum second hand. The chap that had it had told the company of a flaw on the fabric. They sent a new one which he didn;t even open so I got a 2nd hand frame and a brand new fabric which is perfect. As far as I am concered a perfect screen. Some argue grey better, but I am happy with it.

It an 86" diagonal and I sit about 11ft away, so for 1080p resolution I see enverything in amazing detail

HCC is quick off the mark. Typical of the HC mags to be running a bit late but the HC5000 has been out now for about 10 months and soon to be superceded by the HC6000.

Re: Calling all Mitsubishi HC5000 owner, tell us how good it is

Just picked up a copy of HCC for the first time in years... and then I remembered why I stopped reading it - the reviews are awful.

No mention of lens shift at all.
No mention if the PJ can accept a 1080/24p input (it can).

etc... completely lacking in details.

And in the Plasma review, they say that the Panasonic doesn't support 24p, but who cares... it doesn't make any difference. WHAT!? Is my Mum writing for HCC these days?

However, the Mitsubishi sounds like a little gem - fully motorised lens shift and focusing can't be bad. Does anyone know if it has lens shift presets? Would be great for changing the screen between watching TV, 16:9 movies and Cinemascope movies.

Anyone know how the black level compares to a Panasonic AE900?
