SKY connection to BENQ W100?

Thinking of getting a Benq W100 projector. What would the best/easiest way to connect a Sky box to this? Sky box is a Pace DS430N, so only really scart RGB output.

Benq W100 has following inputs: -
Analog RGB: DVI-I x 1
Digital RGB: DVI-I x 1 (HDCP)
Component Video1: RCA x 3
Component Video2: RCA x 3
S-Video: Mini DIN 4 pin x 1
Composite-Video: RCA x 1

Can you go from scart rgb to dvi-i?

Thanks in advance

Re: SKY connection to BENQ W100?

Has it really only got RGB Scart out. Have a look in the menus for the Sky and see if it does S Video. It could have a proper S Video socket or do S Video through the scart connection. A Scart to S Video cable would then work.

You might be able to go from Scart to DVI A (analogue). DVI I socket does both DVI A and DVI D (digital). Something like this (it should also work with a DVI female to male cable to extend its reach). It's not cheap though.

Re: SKY connection to BENQ W100?

I just use a Scart to composite video/audio connector block. http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=s...oogle&ct=title
Then I plug the yellow video lead into the PJ and the two audio plugs into the hifi.

I am very happy with the results, and it is dirt cheap compared to some of the other solutions.

How big is your image?, At 80", composite looks terrible.

Re: SKY connection to BENQ W100?

No S-Video unfortunatley. Looks like it'll have to be composite for now, I'll keep image size down so hopefully not too bad a picture. Will increase picture size for DVDs (Svideo) and consoles (Component).

I'm sure I read somewhere of problems with those scart-DVI-I cables from Genfen. Can anyone confirm if these work?

Thanks for the advice.

I have a 70" diagonal image, and sit about 1.5-2x the throw distance from the screen. So most things look excellent. It is not as good as when I use the Xbox or upscaling DVD, but the results are more than adequate. I feel the bottleneck in quality comes from the compression noise and quality of the signal coming from the sky box and not my cables. If I upgraded to SkyHD, then I would definitely improve the cables, but spending £40+ on connectors, just to see the imperfections and compression artefacts better doesn't make sense, and the missus certainly wouldn't notice enough of a difference to let me part with the cash You probably guessed that I was prepared to sacrifice image quality for cost when I bought a Benq W100

Re: SKY connection to BENQ W100?

Sky + boxes have S-Video and can be had sort of cheaply on the auction site (£50 or less) which is lower than most solutions for this (most of which end in composite which is terrible over PJs and has colour issues sometimes). You don't even need to change your Sky package (although you won't be able to use the Sky + functions if you don't). It's the best you'll get for the money. Scart needs converters and AFAIK Sky HD is the only Sky box with Component and a more expensive subscription.

Re: SKY connection to BENQ W100?

I have been trying to find the rgb to s-video converter that I bought from Maplins, on their website, it cost about £35, but have not had any luck. I did find this though on Ebay looks like it would do the same thing.

Here

Also it looks very similar to the one being sold Here

Re: SKY connection to BENQ W100?

I got sky box installed recently. It is the Amstrad box and it has only Scart RGB output and no S-Video.

I bought a cheap Scart to Composite cable from my local Pound shop - yeah £1 only - just to try and see how it works...

I watched the Wimbledon Final and it was quite ok...

The results are not bad...definitely below standard wrt DVD but watchable...
I am going to take some screenshots today and post it here so that ppl who want o see how it looks may get an idea...

my screen size (read projected image on wall) is 88inches...
