My experience of Blokesstuff.net when buying a PLV-Z5

I'm a long time lurker first time poster. I have been reading up on the forums for a while now about projectors and finally decided to take the plunge and purchase a Sanyo Z5 after hearing so many positive reviews.

Having scanned the web for a good price I came across Blokesstuff.net. They were advertising the PJ for £650 with next day delivery. They stated that they had 15 in stock. I made the purchase on Thursday morning about 11:30am hoping that at least if it doesn't make it by Friday, I'll get it by Sat morning.

Friday came and went with no delivery. When I phoned up on Friday lunchtime to see if I could get a tracking number I was informed that someone had misplaced my order and it hadn't been posted yet. They assured me it would be sent out straight away.

Saturday no delivery.

Monday morning came and went, No delivery. By this point I was getting a bit concerned that It was lost in the post, so I phoned again to try and get a tracking number but was told that they didn't actually have any PLV-Z5's on the premises and it was being shipped direct from manufacturer. So much for having 15 in stock! The person I spoke to told me he couldn't give me a tracking number because he couldn't get a hold of the person responsible for shipping but he would phone me first thing Tuesday morning and assured me 100% that I would recieve the projector on Tuesday.

Tuesday morning, the guy from Blokesstuff phones with the tracking number. When I check with the couriers they say that they were given the PJ Monday night for delivery so wouldn't be delivered until wed. So I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if I get it. So much for next day delivery! Should be next week delivery!

I just thought I would post to let any potential customers of Blokesstuff.net be aware of my experience with them and to take their Next day delivery quote with a pinch of salt.

You must know how frustrating it can be when you are excited about getting something you have paid a lot of money for and you keep getting let down.

If you haven't been charged extra for next day delivery then apart from it being a little bit irksome having not received it next day then it's hardly life and death.

Let us all know how you get on once you've received it and as long as all is well with the unit then I hope next time you'll give the supplier a

Hi all,

Just an update. Just recievced the Z5 and nearly all is forgiven regarding Blokesstuff.net's not so speedy delivery. In the box was a free lamp voucher which was totally unexpected! A HD projector and a free lamp for £650, not complaining! If anyone is interested I can leave my impressions and some photos.

Wow, lucky you! - My one dident come with a free lamp voucher - The one that does come with this voucher is normaly about £100 more expensive!

I just wanted to post on here as I also ordered a Z5 from blokesstuff.net, My experiance was perfect. I ordered for next day delivery, and got next day delivery .

(I did ring before i ordered to check if I ordered the item that it would be next day and they assured me it would) - If you definatly want an item next day from any internet retailer I recamend phoning them and asking before you order just so you wont be dissapointed.

Glad you got it in the end. So, you got a lamp voucher as well as a second lamp?

No, I recieved the projector on it's own and a voucher that allows you to send off for a spare bulb was included in the box. You have to fill in your name and address and the serial number of the PJ and post it off to Sanyo and they say they will post a spare lamp out to you in about 28 days.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the projector.

I'm particuarly interested in how well it performs in a non blacked out room as I keep reading that it's not bright enough.

I'd rather buy the Sanyo Z5 than the Pana AX100 if I can, I'll be using it in a living room with cream walls and normal curtains. No plans to use it in the day though, only at night.

Hi MonkeyBoy. I plan on using it in my bedroom which has one window with a blackout blind. I'll certainly let you know how it performs with light in the room. Just counting the hours until I get home to try it out!

I have the Sanyo Z5 and would say that in a darkened room it is absoloutley fantastic.

However if your curtains dont have some sort of heavy lining / blackout lining I would say it isnt great.

You can still see an image ok, but its nothing like the image you get in a light controlled room. It definatly doesent need to be pitch black, but there should be no direct sunlight coming into the room.

Got my Sanyo Z5 home last night and got it all setup with my HTPC and 360. All I can say is WOW! Watched a couple of Hi Def 720p trailers on the Xbox 360 and it looks amazing, almost 3D. Bear in mind this was at about 9pm in a fully darkened room.

I watched some SD BBC News 24 this morning in a brighter room and it isn't as good as watching at night but it is still really good and definatly watchable.

I thought I'd have a quick go of Forza 2 on the PJ this morning before I left for work and lo and behold, I get the 3 red lights of death on the 360. Nightmare!

Oh well off to M$ with it!

I think i'll post some pics in the thread regarding peoples photos of their setups tonight when I get home.

Re: My experience of Blokesstuff.net when buying a PLV-Z5

Glad it all worked out for you.

Delivery times really really get on my nerves. I work in london and so get get av deliveries i used to take the day off on holiday. More than once i had this same problem (different companies) and just fobed off with a sorry. Now my holiday is worth a lot to me (more than my salary for that day and that's enough on its own). I should add that the depot isn't in colchester (my town) and i don't own a car so can't collect myself.

I now use my parents address as they are retired and are likely to be in.

Right, my rant over. I now feel better.
