Question Moving house - new projector

Hopefully be moving house next month and I've got 'grand' plans for the next gaff, i.e. upgrading my creaking infocus4805 - the most important things to me are as follows:

-Price: less than 1500 quid if possible
-HD Ready: 1080p or as future proof as you can reasonably get hold of currently
-Dust blob proof

Don't ask for much do I? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I moved a year ago and sold my projector just 6 months before that - infocus X1 with 4805 firmware - i am going to Roy Jowett tomorrow to demo a Panasonic AX100 only a 5hr round trip or so, i'll let you know what it's like compared to the old infocus as i had a double garage built a few months ago and one side i had turned into my home cinema room....nice and sound proof from the house and neighbours etc.

If you can just stretch your budget buy another 500 quid then you can get the brand new Optoma HD80 which is true 1080p. Amazing specs for 2000 quid.

Or in your price range:-
Optoma HD73
Infocus IN78
which are 720p projectors.

So you should get a DLP machine as most LCD machines don't have sealed optics.

Re: Moving house - new projector

I'm probably going to have the new pj sat on a table I currently use for the infocus - I'm just thinking that next time I'm not just going to leave the projector sat there day after day, instead I'll put it in a box or similar to protect it from that pesky house dust.

Thanks for the advice fellas - I've a feeling I might have to get a new credit card with a 0% offer!

Re: Moving house - new projector

Most PJ's come with a storage case. If my £380 W100 can come with one, I would expect a £1500 to have one as well.

Re: Moving house - new projector

Maybe that's an infocus thing, no storage case?

Fingers crossed looks like I'll be moving in to my new gaff at the beginning of august so I'm tempted to persevere with my 4805 for a while longer. I'm hoping more and more 1080p projectors will arrive and perhaps coincide with a nice ps3 price drop.

Re: Moving house - new projector

Hi MarkusThatch

Themescene HD80 & Mitsubishi HC5000 are the only 1080p projectors around £2K mark HD80 is the newest only being a week old. The HD80 is quite a remarkable DLP projector and every time I have viewed this projector it has impressed me when I pitch it against the Sony Pearl, Mitsubishi HC500 and Panasonic PTAE1000 the HD80 offer's the sharpest and visually natural picture at this level.

As for 720p projectors I feel you cannot go wrong with the Themescene HD73.

Regards. Shane.

Thanks for the advice Shane. Think I'll sit tight and keep plodding away with my old infocus until more 1080p projectors come out and the prices drop below 2 grand.

I've had 3 projectors, the last one costing £3,500 and none of them had a storage case, in fact the most expensive one didn't even come in a strong cardboard box!

Wow, that would actually annoy me.
