Strange Experience with HDCP?

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd share a strange problem I've had. Oh and mods this could very well belong in the cable forum so can you please move if needed.

So I used to have a Philips 5900 upscaling DVD player to use with my projector (AE500) which worked well enough over a 10m HDMI-DVI cable for a few months. It then started locking up when playing DVDs so I sent it back. By the time I received the credit I'd bought a PS3 which actually functioned as well if not better on my LCD via a shorter HDMI.

The PS3 also worked fine playing games on the projector via the same long cable but the projector would still lock up when playing an SD-DVD. So I thought I'd try my short HDMI with a DVI adaptor to see if it was the cable that was the problem and this time the projector was fine. I then moved it back and tried the original cable and now it all works fine again. Now I'm not complaining as it saves buying a new cable but I'm at a loss as to why its now fine. Previously I figured the cable must have a fault which no longer meant it was HDCP compliant. Its almost like the shorter cable rebooted something.

I tested it with all the same DVDs and it plays everything ok and I didn't move the cable at all as its routed round the room. Bizarre one huh!

Did I really waffle for so long...
