don't know about 'cinema' ones, but I bought one from Lindy.co.uk for about £35. Went for the 10m 'professional' one which is supposed to be for CAD use etc, with minimal signal loss.

Should be fine for TV etc. Gordon at Convergent can also make you one up. He's doing me a component cable at the moment.

Hi,

I would be very interested to know if an expensive VGA cable produces a noticable improvement. I bought a chucky 5m cable with the PRO-V for £35 but the cat ate it before I could install it all, so I bought a 6m cable from maplin for £15, cant say I noticed any difference.

Nick.

adapter for prov cable

I cant find a femala-female vga cable.

The one supplied with ProV doesnt fit, it is male-female.

The socket on ProV is male and the socket on PJ is male.

Do I have to find an adapter or use a female-female vga cable which I cannot find.

help.

1. You need a male/male

2. You didn't look very hard

It's a VGA loop/passthrough

Both female

confused

Ok
Thanks Kramer.

Ive still not sorted it out though.

These are the sockets as they are listed in manual.

Panny AE100

PC IN
RGB: Single-line D-SUB HD 15-pin (female)

ProV

VGA OUTPUT: D-SUB 15-pin female connector.

This may sound stoopid but I see that a socket is female and a plug is male. Both output on ProV and input on AE100 are plugs to accept a socket.

Kramer,

Felling a little irritable waiting for you new toy ??? (Wink, Grin)

Obiwan,

OK m8, here goes.

If the plug on the end of a vga cable has pins in it then its "male".

If the plug (or a socket on a pj, pc, ProV, whatever) has a solid surface with holes in it, its female. To get your thinking on male female sorted, think of the pins as willies, and the holes in the sockets as ...... well...... you get it now ?

To connect the out of the ProV (female) to the input of the Projector (female) you need a male/male VGA cable. If you have a male/female VGA lead, then you can get a gender changer, (from Maplins) which is a small gizmo which has male pins on both sides, plugging in to the female end of the cable, changing it to male.

There are two VGA sockets on the back of the ProV, the one on the left as you look at the back of the ProV is the output - it sends the signal to the projector. The one next to it is the Pass thru - you can connect a PC to this, and when you press the "PC/TV" button on the remote control, it will send the signal from the PC straight to the output of the ProV, and on to the Projector. Check the pictures in the manual if you're still in doubt.

Most of us come to this hobby with some basic knowledge of how to connect up the various bits and pieces, and some understanding of the terminology, gained from a PC/tech background, surfing the net, whatever. You seem to have missed this phase, and I'm more than happy to help anywhere I can, as are most guys her - it is a community effort, and you're welcome to anything most of us can offer. I would advise you, if at all possible, to find someone with basic knowledge of this type of stuff who lives somewhere near you and get them to give you an hour of their time explaining the basics to you - it'll be a lot clearer than trying to explain in text.

Good luck,

Sean G.

OK Got it.

Thanks

I was thinhking it was the other way around.
I was thinking the socket was female because it was a socket, it never occured to me that the pins would be classed as male.

Thankyou........

God no, what gave you that impression?

Don't think I ever will Sean - given up at this stage

OMG

Wash your mouth you filthy thing! & then, as contrition, recite 10 decades of the Rosary!

In a good christian/catholic country! Down with this sort of thing!

There you go again, trying to lure some other poor innocent into this filty discussion.

Babies come from the stork/head of cabbage/little angels.

BTW, what's that recepticle willies fit in??? It wasn't sockets from memory.......................have to watch some Ali G for a refresh

Hope your sorted now Obiwan (apologies for my mood - at least I gave you the necessary info).

Sean,

Major cockup with delivery - absolutely livid. Patience wasn't ever a virtue of mine, especially when new toys are SO SO close, but unreachable.

The sun'll come out, 2morrow, bet your bottom dollar on 2morrow........there'll be sun. 2morrow, 2morrow..........

Fingers crossed

Jeez, Kramer,

Get your act together, Females are the ones who make the tea, fetch the beer, mind the babies and generally keep the gaff neat and tidy so we can watch movies in peace.

Tough on your new toy being late arriving - I'd be ******ed off too, especially when I had wound up my m8s and had them waiting too

Take care,

Sean G.

Hey guys do you reckon that this thread is a waste of server space.

Do you think anyone could make the same mistake and could possibly benefit from the wisdom contained herein. heh

Anyway I went for this one in the end.

No, it isn't a waste - everyone starts somewhere, and this forum (afaik) doesn't have entry conditions, other than an enthusiasm for the topic, and a willingness to share info, opinions, whatever with others. No dumbass, just need to learn more. Go surfing here and on avsforum, enjoy your projector, thats what its all about.

obiwan, if it helps, I got confused about gender too ;P

I figured it was socket/plug, and VGA is socket with pins, so they seem to contradict. Got it in the end by asking av-sales who sold me the proV. male-male it was

And I try to think of myself as fairly technically competent. the questions are only easy if you know the answer.
