Whats the cheapest decent DLP projector?

Hello,

In the near future I plan on buying a LCD projector (prob a Pan AE300) for DVD's, however all this talk of dodgy units, stuck pixels and units frying (AE100) has really given me the scares, so I guess the next step up is DLP, so whats the cheapest (but good) DLP projector?

Cheers.

DLP isn't necessarily a step-up from LCD. I've had both and they BOTH have their strengths and weaknesses.

Just browse thru a load of posts on this forum and you'll soon find all the details you could ever want to know...

It may not be the cheapest, but without doubt, one of the best sensibly priced DLP machines is the Sharp PG-M20X.

Excellent Contrast
Excellent Scaler (picture of interlaced component is superb!)
Bright
Very good stretch of 4:3 material if you want to use only a 16:9 screen.
I've never seen rainbows on it.... and yes I can see them on ohters.

It isn't the quietest machine, but that's about the ONLY downside for it's price.

The Infocus X1 gets good reviews over at avs and is around $1500 in the US.

It's only 'drawback' is that it's only 800 x 600, but it it has the Faroudja DCDI and up to 2000:1 cr (1400:1 in video mode, i.e. white section off).

I think it works OK with htpc too, so could be worth a look when it gets to the UK.

Gary.

You could do worse

The fairly newish NEC models (LT240, LT260 and of course the HT1000 - which I haven't seen yet) should also figure, but like always you'd be a little more helpful if you specify a budget. These projectors will set you back £2500-£3500 depending on which model and where you go.

Try before you buy, this amount of money shouldn't be thrown at an internet dealer based on recommendations from this forum alone...

Optoma H50 is reasonaby cheap at £2400 and has had some good reviews - comes with Silicon Images DMDO 504.

On subject of DLP has anyone seen the new Runco?

Cheers
