Is it? Like for example is it louder than my 360 (Hitachi 2006 model, quite the wind tunnel with games)? My W100 is pretty quiet on eco mode and my previous CP-S240 was ok in eco mode too (rated at 30db, like the XV-Z3000 in the same). Being a cautious type and not liking too much noise I'd be running it in eco mode (or equivalent) anyway. I have my W100 10.5' from the screen and i sit approx 9.5' from the screen but as the W100 is up higher than me I'd say I would be approx 1.5-2' from the projector (diagonally up).

It looks cracking but if it's too noisy it will eventually get me down

Please help as they won't be around for ever at the low price. Early bird and the worm and that....

I have the Sharp XV-12000 and its rated at 33db. I would say its the same loudness as a 360 or just a tad higher. I havent played with it much but the noise doesnt bother me at all. You can hear it during silent parts in movies but your brain doesnt tune into that type of sound (well my ears dont)

If your projector is mounted more than 3' I dont think it will be noticable.

The Sharps are very fussy about where they are mounted as the top/bottom of the screen needs to be in line with the projector. Make sure that it can work in your setup

Is this on full or economy lamp usage? And louder than the 360 when the 360's DVD drive is running a game at full pelt? I'm just trying to get a real world similarity to judge with and the 360's damn loud when reading DVD games. If I can't hear it over that when set to economy then it's cool.

Thanks for the mounting advice - I live in rented property so drilling the ceiling is a no-no but can I run it upside down on a shelf? (I know that's not idea but what would the difference be from mounting it on the ceiling upside down?)

I have had Z3000 for a month. I was in your situation when I decided to buy it. I do not have a Xbox so I can not compare it with but in eco+quite mode it will be noisy during quite scenes. I know when you read this you will think "No way, I do not want a projector that loud" as I felt when I read other peoples comment whose experience same as me. In addition I ahte noise coming from anywhere, I can not stand it ( I changed my computer fans to silent ones!). I was very cautios when I decided it to buy However even it is loud I am very happy with it because when a movie starts the niose get forgotten and you will get the pleasure to own the bargain of this year. I beleive that you need to buy a darkchip3 DLP to beat this projector in picture quality department. Unless you are allergic to noise even during quite scenes BUY IT.

Thanks - I think! You make good points both ways. I guess it's how much I can take noise wise. As this place is net only I can't demo it to tell and worry about getting it and never growing to like it. On the other hand it looks to be amazing and a stone cold bargain. Grrrr....

Thats the noise level on full lamp. You can still hear the disc skipping on the 360 over the projector easily, although I would say that the projector is louder than the 360 when the console is on but just in dashboard.

I'm really fussy when it comes to sound as well and like wizard of oz1 run quite PC's as I hate loud fans. With projectors I dont think that you need to worry as much as you're trapped in the film itself plus the sound of dialogue and explosions etc mute out all the fan noise. Dont forget also that my projector is also louder than the Z3000 that you wish to purchase.

I've read some glowing reviews of that projector and the price it is at right now I'd go for it. That is some bargain for sure Picture quality is much more important than a few extra decibels from the fans IMO. Mounting upside has no effect on PQ so far as I am aware.
