Thanks: Gave 31, Got 16 | Mitsubishi HC5000
Well, It arrived today and is now set up in my new cinema room. I am very impressed with the quality of HD DVD's and the standard def stuff don't look half bad either!
No screen door and it looks like I have got an ok model with no dust blobs or any faults I can see.
I will post some images later tonight or tomorrow if anyone is interested, or any questions please fire away.
Dave

Dave | What firmware version is it? I bought mine in Feb and it is version 2.
To find firmware version;
Select FEATURE- MENU POSITION- then press AUTO POSITION on your remote control- press ENTER then AUTO POSITION.
You are now in the service menu.

Dave | I find the remote works ok for me.
There is a version 4.0 which is supposed to help prevent dust problems.

I think that IVOJO will let us know when it is available.

You should definately get away from version 2 as version 3 fixed some really poor PAL deinterlacing issues, so you will still be suffering these at V2.
Mind you if we all get the upgrade to V4 at the same time then that will be a better solution.
A machine, without the dust problems is simply awesome.

A machine, without the dust problems is simply awesome. | Mitsubishi have offered to collect mine for cleaning, but I said I would rather wait until the version 4 upgrade is available. If they now have the solution and are applying it to current machines I wonder why the firmware release is taking so long.
I don't know about you, but my dust blobs don't spoil my viewing of on screen images, I only see them on scene fades etc. They just shouldn't be there on such a high quality machine.

Do you guys use an upscaling DVD player and set it to upscale or let the pj do the work?
I am also keen to know what settings you have it set at?

I am also keen to know what settings you have it set at? | I have the Toshiba HD XE1 which I set to 1080p output. It has the same high quality Silicon Optix scaler/de-interlacer as is in the Mits HC5000. If your dvd player has a lesser quality scaler then output 576i/p and let the PJ do the scaling/de-interlacing work because it will do a better job, but it is always worth while trying both ways and see which you prefer.
Settings are as it came out of the box most of the time. source material does vary however and I sometimes crank up the contrast setting and lower the brightness to -10.and occasionally switch between cool and warm settings. I think it depends on the room environment to a degree. My lounge has white ceiling and walls. In a room with darker decor different settings may suit and also it depends on personal preference just like tv settings.
