I never got around to buying one of these. If you could keep us posted about how audible the fans are I'd appreciate it. Thanks for posting

I bought a similar UPS from CPC for my AE1000, but there are no fans on it....I don't know if that is typical?

Sorry. Being a bit web naive. What's Google Checkout?

Edit: Scrub that. I see the Google Checkout option on the ebuyer page...

Re: Dynamode 850VA UPS £25 at ebuyer

mine arrived yesterday - charged it for 6 hours and it works like a charm.

its bigger than i expected, very heavy but totally silent until the alarm kicks in.

good thing is once its charged you can knock the power switch off and only use it when required ie for when the projector is used.

i have not tried it with the projector yet but it works very well with other sources.

i plugged my ps3 and dvd into it and switched the power off.

ps3 continued to work without a glitch and same with my dvd player.

i assume therefore that the projector would also continue to work without it being knocked off. there some comments that the UPS would have to be fast enough to switch to battery power for it to be effective.

for £25 its a bargain.

oh and the ps3 and dvd player both worked for at least 5 minutes before the alarm got on my nerves and i swtitched powwer back on so plenty of time to power down.

Re: Dynamode 850VA UPS £25 at ebuyer

I noticed that in battery mode, the output changes from a sine wave to square. Does anyone know if this is likely to cause any issues? Is this normal for UPSs?

Re: Dynamode 850VA UPS £25 at ebuyer

if you look at the avsforums this has been discussed many times.

at the end of the day the power block on the projector will be able to deal with any type of current in any form. its no big deal as you wont be running the projector on battery power for long anyway.

therefore it will not cause any harm.

i also had the same concern as you. did a lot of reading on these UPS and came away totally reassured that no damage could be done.

Re: Dynamode 850VA UPS £25 at ebuyer

Thanks FG. What about other pieces of electronics kit such as CD and DVD players?

Edit: Given that you tested it with your PS3 and DVD player, I guess you are not concerned...

Re: Dynamode 850VA UPS £25 at ebuyer

This is a really dumb question, but how do you charge the battery in the damn thing? No kit connected, but should the power light be on or off?

IIRC the power light should be "on" even with no load connected and the battery will self charge.

Hi

The square wave output will be fine for anything with a switch mode power supply.

It will kill (or be killed by) anything with a conventional transformer in it.

"there some comments that the UPS would have to be fast enough to switch to battery power for it to be effective."

That is the whole point of an "uninterruptible power supply".
