Sanyo Z2 and HDMI

Not sure if this is the best forum to post this in but I reckon this is probably the best bet-

Ive had my Z2 for ages now and had no problems, but Ive just ordered a PS3 which comes with a HDMI connection so I am planning on getting a HDMI>DVI adapter to connect to the PJ but I have just stumbled accross a lot of posts on the net regarding problems with the Z2 detecting a signal after it has been converted from HDMI.Has anyone had any experience of this?Or even better is anyone currently connecting their Z2 to a PS3 via HDMI?

Re: Sanyo Z2 and HDMI

Hi

Using a DVI adaptor should not make any difference to HDMI.

I have the Z2 connected with a DVI adaptor. No problams at all. Prior to the PS3 i had a Denon 3910 and there was no problem at all there either.

I can't agree mate. I have the Z2 and it works just fine.

Ensure Z2 is set to Input 2, and that RGB is selected in that input. (Input 1 is for the analogue inputs.)

Then simply connect the PS3 up. Turn on the Z2 first. Then turn on the PS3. The HDMI on the PS3 will then see the digital device and bring up a suggestion as to the correct display setting. (It should, but ensure it says 1080i output, as that will ensure BD is played at the optimum setting for the projector .Let the Z2 do the scaling\deinterlacing.)

Enjoy

Re: Sanyo Z2 and HDMI

There seems to be a lot of mixed information and speculation out there at the moment so it is good to hear that it definitley works from someone with the same sort of set up

Im still waiting patiently for the PS3 to be delivered but when I get it I will post to confirm that it all works fine or if I get any issues

Re: Sanyo Z2 and HDMI

Helllo Jamie,

Your Z2 might have older firmware maybe ?

There is a thread here about HDCP and the Z2,

I'm positive mate, im running it right now. Also with my Denon 3910 I had no problems either. I watched DVDs upscaled and ouput at 720p and 1080i with no problems on the Z2. (But you will find that 1080i is better due to motion judder at 720p.)

Regarding the PS3. You must set the PS3 BD playback to 1080i, otherwise you will most likely run into problems. Sending the 1080i signal allows the Z2 to deinterlace\scale to its native 720p. Also, from what I understand, if you set the PS3 to output at anything less that 1080i it will downscale it to 480\576p.

Hope this helps.
