Have lurked around here for years never needed to post before.
I bought a monster vga cable for xbox 360 to replace the component cables bundled with the console, looking to maximise my hd-dvd playback, it works fine in all display modes except 1080i/1080p where it refuses to work.
I don't think it's my PJ a Panasonic PT-ae1000 which i am sure is capable of receiving a 1080 signal via VGA.
Anybody else had similar problems?
Any help/advice really appreciated.

Is the HD-DVD drive for the 360 1080p?? One way to fix this is buy a PS3...

When you select 1080p in the xbox menu, does screen go blank straight away? Or is it only when you are playing a HD-DVD

You don't get the option of 1080i/1080p with a VGA cable its just 1920 x 1080 its really strange my PJ supports full hd and looks great via component 1080i but just goes blank with vga 1080 selected.

A PS3 way too expensive at £425 mate just blown £1800 on a new PJ and half way through converting my garage to a home cinema.

Weird, I guess the PJ works fine when driven by your PC at 1920x1080?
I guess your 360 is fully updated with the latest dashboard updates? (i.e. it's been connected to the 'net?)

The 360 will do 1080p over component (dashboard/games but not movies) - I assume this works too?

Can't otherwise help, as I haven't got a 1080p capable display

It can also pull the update of new games, the option of 1080p or 1920 x 1080 came in the last update in November I think, so I'd say your console must be up to date.

I'm also having this problem. I can select any resolution from the dashboard except 1920x1080. If I select this, the screen goes blank. I'm going to try hooking the PJ up to my laptop shortly to see if this works.

What vga cables are you guys using mines an offical xbox 360 cable from monster.

im using something i picked up from pcworld. ive just been and checked and it only supports upto 1080i but i didnt think that mattered with vga cables?have you managed to get 1080p?

I haven't found a solution. The official cables that I'm using also say that they support 1080i, but the update from November was supposed to upgrade this to 1080p.

well i was playing virua tennis 3 demo at 1080p with my panny AE1000. conencted through a 13 meter belden component lead.

i think though that any HD-dvds will only play back at 1080i at the moment

Component works fine for me. Have you remembered to flick the HDTV switch on the component cable? (It's just where you input the optical cable)

at mark grant cables - it cost me £84 but worth it. very well made (check the belden cable reviews online). its one of the best component leads available and the quality of the cable is amazing.

look in the cable thread there is a powerbuy for mark grant cables.

i also have my ps3 carrying 1080 p through it. (although i understand that the ps3 will not output blueray at 1080p through component yet).

games will output at 1080p though (just tried ridge racer- wow)

Still not sorted this problem.
No worries via component 1080p for games 1080i for hd-dvd, read a post somewhere on the forum that the pt-ae1000 does not accept 1080 via vga but i am sure the manual says it does. Am I misunderstanding the manual anybody else read through the compatable signal table.

FGEvans1 have you compared blu-ray on ps3 to hd-dvd on xbox?

I have Casino Royale for my PS3. I had a quick look at it and to be honest I couldn't tell the difference in quality, if there is one.

of course neither the Ps3 or 360 will do 1080p over component because of DRM restraints, however it's fine over HDMI or VGA.

VGA typically doesn't do "interlaced" formats, hence the 360's adoption of "PC screen" resolutions when using this cable.

Odd the panny doesn't work at this res, what do your laptops do when plugged into the pj?

VGA quality tends to be variable on TV/projectors due to poor support (its not an av format). Has anyone checked the quality of VGA versus component or HDMI (as they are AV formats) on the pt-ae1000 ?
