HC5000 Not synching on RGBHV

I have the HC5000 but having some problems that could be associated with the cable but looking for possible options.

Running the XBOX 360 cable direct to the pj the vertical synch locks at 60Hz and the picture is perfect. Running a 8m Van Damme 75 ohm VGA cable as an extension to the projector displays a verticle synch of 59.98Hz and the picture is distorted.

In trying to rectify the problem I have an VGA amplifier from Krammer in the hope that maybe it is a weak signal but alas the problem still exists. I then tried using the original microsoft cable (because you have to) to the VGA amplifier and the 1m cable supplied with it direct to the pj (1m cheapo cable) the signal locks at 60Hz and perfect picture.

If I synch at 60Hz, leave the XBOX and pj switched on and physically change the VGA cable from the VGA amplifier to the 8m van damme cable then the picture on screen is perfect at 1080p as the pj no longer needs to think about synching to 60Hz as it believes it already happened.

Therefore, I can confirm that the Van Damme does appear to run 1080p with any problems, but big problems seem to occur when immediately switcing on the XBOX and trying the get it to synch at 60Hz with the pj but it just doesn't want to do it.

Any ideas what the hell is causing this? I would have though .2 from 60Hz would not have caused any problems. Maybe it's nothing to do with this and could be a red herring.

Thank Stewart
